Thinking of doing some custom work

dimanche 2 juin 2019

I have been thinking of doing a little custom work.  The extra income would be nice.  I have one guy that would like me to cut and bale his hay, but he is 23 miles away.  He is willing to pay $30 per acre to cut, $40 per bale to bale a 3x4x8, and $5 per bale to move off the field.  This field is 36 acres, and the stack yard is right next to the field.  It is a alfalfa grass mix.  He said he gets about 70 tons per year out of three cuttings.

to cut one cutting                     $1080

Bale approximately 35 bales   $1400

move bales to stack yard         $ 175

Total per cutting                       $2655

I am looking for some opinions, does that seem like a worthwhile deal?  I am thinking it will take about three hours to move equipment one direction.

NH 644 core tension spring

Watching the rainy days pile up and my mind has wandered to this spring. Is it a wear item? Mine has been bottomed out since buying the baler with 12,000 bales through it. It around 16k now and I’ve never thought it made the tightest core. (It’s a NH, I realize, not the absolute hardest core on the market) I finally looked up the price today and it’s far more reasonable than I expected. Is replacing it at 16,000 bales a reasonable expectation or even if not common, a good idea?

Wonder if this is ad is due to traffics on China product?     Looks to me like they have either copied or come close to it on many brands.

Newly Seeded Alfalfa - Timothy - Orchard Grass

samedi 1 juin 2019

I am in BC Canada and we just seeded a field last fall in September.   We seeded with a mix of Alfalfa - Timothy - Orchard Grass.

I see the grasses coming in nicely but I do not see the alfalfa much.   Is this normal for a newly seeded field?   Or should I be concerned the winter may have caused issues with the alfalfa?   I see it in areas pretty good but its scarce.

Any tips on getting this newly planted field growing better please let me know.

Thanks

B7610 differential sticking

My 7610 differential is stuck like i am holding the pedal down. How to get unstuck? I have done figure eights, reverse, everything. It has been stuck for a year. I am afraid it will break something.
