Vermeer baler help

samedi 24 mai 2014

I've got a Vermeer 504 Super I round baler that has the hydraulic assist. The hydraulic assist needs to be recharged. Is this something I can do myself or do I need to take it to the dealer? If I can do it, how do I do it? Thanks

Last round with haybine.

So I have this NH 1465 haybine I traded and I thought I'd see how well it cuts heavy alfalfa/orchard grass/fescue mix compared to a discbine. I must say I was rather impressed until I was doing the last strip and overlapping cut crop. What a nightmare! :( Is this what sickle operators put up with or is there some secret?

Kubota M7040 7 pin adaptor

My 7040 is the Special Utility aka stripped down model. IIRC a regular one comes equipped with a 7 pin adaptor?

What is required to plumb one in? Is it as simple as an adaptor that plugs into my open square 8 pin sticking out the back? On top of the fuel tank.

I'm in need of help was putting shock hubs on last night and it seems as if the last three turtles on right hand side of the mower are just a a touch out of time with the others. I know before the end of the season last year they worked in one of the drive shaft gearbox. I removed everything down so I could see the gears and no missing teeth nothing odd looking or do I need To go back another turtle

Dohrmann vs crop care preservative applicator?

vendredi 23 mai 2014

Looking for a preservative applicator for small square baler. Just want a simple on off switch in the cab, and adjust pressure at the baler for the applicator. Dohrmann is $665 plus shipping and crop care is $397 plus shipping. Is there any reason the Dohrmann is better? Any other good applicators in the price range?

5083e and 457ss problems

I have 5083e and a 457ss baler that are giving me a fit when baling wet hay this spring baled 25 bales then it just about quit . Had to put tractor in lowest gear wide open seemed to have slowed down as it got hotter . Had to get neighbor to finish with his baler . This happened last year on wet baling sorghum sudan. So I have changed fuel filter , hydraulic oil had metal on plug and in the oil and was burnt some less than 300 hr on oil. No one can tell me what's wrong I know that after it heats up it stArts losing power . All the metal is worrying me that it is going hurt everything else . Jd mechanic wants to see when baling but my time is limited on baling with my work . But my thoughts are the Hydo pump is going bad and stopping up filters . Ready to by a 5525 to bale with.

When to mow alfalfa.

jeudi 22 mai 2014

When is the proper stage of plant life to mow my alfalfa? Do you all wait for it to start blooming or do you mow just before it blooms? Mine in central Nebraska is thick and over knee high right now just getting buds no blooms yet.

Discbine with ragged cut: how much difference can one lifter make?

I took my discbine out for a small test run tonight after I serviced it and I have a terrible skip between the outer two right-side discs. This is a Vicon KMR 3800 which I'm guessing nobody has but the cutterbar arrangement is standard for a 12' mower. Outside two discs have a tower on them and both rotate toward the center of the machine. (Yes, the knives are new.) The mower is clearly pushing crop ahead on that side of the machine instead of feeding neatly through the conditioning rolls.

Looking at the right and left sides, the only thing different that I notice is a single lifter is missing off the inner of the outer two discs on the problematic right side. Just to make it more confusing, the comparable disc on the left side never had any lifters so I have a hard time believing that one missing on the right is my problem.

Any ideas on what could cause a crop flow/ roll feeding problem that would be resulting in this ragged cut?

Steer is a bull

I purchased 4 beltie steers last fall. Now that the weather has been getting nicer I have had more observation time with the herd. The nicest looking one (biggest belt and biggest guy) appears to be a bull.

I had been contemplating buying his daddy to breed my little Scottish highland herd. Now I am wondering g about keeping him as a bull? I am GUESSING he was supposed to be banded at some point.

My question is if this was the case and it did not take would there be any negative implications of using him as a bull because of this? I want my herd to be extremely self sufficient. The way I am looking at this is survival of the fittest. Changing this guys life plans from filling a freezer to servicing cows. On the negative side this guy has found weakness in my fencethe day he was delivered and last week. None others have taken advantage.

Thoughts?

How many wraps do you put on.

How many wraps of net do you guys put on round bales? I've been using as much as 3 on wet rye.

short video of Vermeer tedder tearing apart merged windrow of rye

mercredi 21 mai 2014

http://ift.tt/1ohCeed

Merged a round around the last field of rye when it was a little too wet for the silo. Tedder did a good job speading it out a bit to dry. Vermeer tedders and their hooked tines are gaining a good reputation in this area for spreading heavy rye and triticale crops. We haven't used this one in grass yet.

Reroofed barn today

mardi 20 mai 2014

Got started on a job re roofing a barn today. Took a couple pics. Will post up finished pic tomorrow. I went with Everdrain metal 20' continuous length.

Original roof was asphalt shingles over an original slate roof. We figured the slate was over 200 yrs old. Felt bad removing it, it turned to powder when you pulled it up.

Cleaning a round baler?

SO last year our round baler was put away dirty. I wasn't the last person to use it or put it away. Today I took it out and blew all the loose chaff that i could then i pressure washed it. their is still a lot of crap in the bale chamber and the pick up. What do you guys do for cleaning your round baler out?

New Tractor.

After much headach over the last 6 months I finally got myself a new tractor. I should have it in the yard sometime next week. They got to put the wheel weights on widen the tires. Order the extra hydrulic valve and bale fork.

The tractor is a Kubota 8560. Comes with a M26 self levelling loader with bucket. Be nice if it was here earlier to spread fertilizer with but oh well.

Will post some pics when I get it.

Improving hay

Hi folks, I have about 8 acres of grass, 5 1/4 of it is hay field with the rest pasture. My goal is to produce top quality horse hay. We only need about 300 small square bales per year for ourselves, so we'll sell the rest.

I met with an agronomist from our local co-op last week. There is a mix of grasses with bluegrass and some orchard grass, and lots and lots of red clover. Part of the fields were overgrazed in previous years. I'll have to do a soil test but the fields are definitely in need of a boost, so we'll be putting down 100 lbs urea, 50 lbs AMS, and 100 lbs potash per acre for starters.

I'm trying to figure out a plan to improve my hay. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Suction cup mount baler monitor

I am looking at my new monitor (Vermeer) and wondering how the suction cup will hold up? The monitor looks pricey to drop. Also it will be in an open station. Thoughts?
