Cattle Market.

I was reading in Cow/Calf Producer magazine last night that the market could retract 50 percent. The author cited the market corrections in the 70's, 80's, 90's and early 2000's for the high and low prices in each cycle. So if his predictions and historical trends are right, we could see prices in the dollar twenty to dollar and a half range. It may take awhile to get there but the bottom is not here yet. My calves are hitting the ground now so its kind'a in the air what they will bring next April. No sense in worrying about it though, not much we can do about it.  A good pre-conditioning program will come into a huge play for top dollar according to the owner of Joplin Stockyards.

NH 575 baler - what is causing this ?

I have a NH 575 baler that has less than 10,000 bales through it and never missed a bale until today. The main crank that has the feeder forks attached it snapped the 1" shaft.  My thought was that the pin on the end of the spring rod came out causing the whole issue because the pin connected to the bracket was gone when we stopped.  Installed a new crank and pin put everything back together, turned over the PTO slowly and snap, the 1" shaft on the feeder crank that holds the forks broke.

 

I am completely at a loss  as to why.

   Any ideas would be most appreciated.

 

 

 

NH 575 baler - what is causing this ?

Brand new to this form,just signed up today. I have a nh 479 haybine that I bought first part of 2nd cutting and cut about 3500 square bales with it and did a fine job. My old 469 does a good job but the 479 has stub guards on it and I can cut faster and it hasn't plugged up and I've cut some thick clover and Lespadeza even when it was a little to damp. The other day I cut a field that had been bushed hogged the end of may and had alot of stuble and real thick.My 479 has all high clips on it never plugged up but had a bunch of mud and stuble inside the clips that I had to dig out after I was done and it cut real rattie on the right side. I checked and on the right side there are 5 or so clips that have .050 plus and there a few clips that the tips are slightly bent up but the sections all set flat on the guards. So my question is can I take the clips off and straighten them or am I better off buying new clips. I took a couple off the other day and the bottom of the clips are smooth. Any advice and or wisdom would be great.

Krone KR130 Compression Rake Missing

My summer project has been restoring an old, beat up KR 130 with the standard pickup I got at an estate sale. Just noticed that it's missing the compression rake which rests on pickup guards. Something in the parts manual confusingly called a "compressing rake" consisting of tines attached to a baffle plate is, however, installed. I'd like to try it out soon and expect the grass to be around 35-40% moisture when baled. Could I get away with not having the compression rake? I assume with real dry grass it would be more important. If I like the baler, I'll get one for next season for sure.
