Hesston 6550 removing header

mardi 6 septembre 2016

I got a chance to buy a Hesston 6450 or a 6550 he cant remember for sure it has the slant six christler engine in it,was these good machines? I would rather have a New Holland but this a good deal, but how do you remove the header to haul this thing? It is a 14 ft header with the conditioner rolls, can I take the header off and put it on a small 16 ft trailer and haul the rest of it on a 8 ft wide trailer? Nobody around here uses this kind of a machine but this man asked me if I wanted it and it is about a hundred miles from here, just need some advice

New holland rollbelt 450

I really want to like this NH baler, but yesterday I pulled out my JD 466 with 20,000 bales run through it, and it makes better lookin bales bales than the NH that's got 800 bales on it. What's the problem?

Sunfilm vs AgriSeal

We used the last of our Sunfilm this week and made the change to the AgriSeal we bought this spring. We feel that the AgriSeal is better in many aspects. It stretches between bales better and so far none has tears or rips during wrapping.

We will buy more AgriSeal for next years sileage. To us the film is more likely to misbehave when its hot.

Brown Spot in Fescue or something else

Well after reading other threads here about bugs & things in fields here in the south I started taking a closer look at my fields.

I was spraying a few weeks ago and found major brown dead spots in my fields, all of them..

So far about 40% of the field is in very big brown spots.... house size spots..... I did take a pic but it is hard to tell so no need to post it...

I did the soapy water trick and didn't really find much coming out of the ground, did this in 8-10 different places and same results.. nothing..

A little background on this years management of the hay fields.....

First cut - 3rd week of May finished, spread 300# ac 21-7-14 week later...  some rain a few days later then very little for 2 months the we did have several small rains that barely settled the dust.

During the summer the fields did show sighs of stress from the drought and did brown down some but the large areas are worrying me...

Cut everything again yesterday a bit low in prep to reseed/liming in a few weeks...

Planing to reseed with Fescue and something else but not sure what yet as their aren't many choices in this area for a companion grass that will stand our weather.. that I know of anyways.....

This field is what I call a new field, this is the 2nd year of cutting the stand and the ground is in good shape..

Is this fungus something common in hay fields, I read it is very common in yards but not much info for fields....  anything else to check for???

Thanks, Chris

My NH Repair Procedures, Tips and Tricks

lundi 5 septembre 2016

I am trying an experiment.  One of these days I am going to retire and I would like to pass on some of what I have learned over the years.  What I post is not intended to be the only way to solve a problem and I know it may not always be complete.  If you choose to follow some of my procedures remember to always practice safety first.  Wear the correct clothing and safety equipment and use the equipment's safety locks etc.

This first attachment is not complete yet, but I want to see how things work as I edit and re-edit a file and add additional files.

I would prefer that no one add any comments to this post to keep it managable and easier for future knowledge seekers to find what they are looking for.  I would request if you have a question or comment to start a new topic.  While a PM is fine I think more people can learn something if it appears on the forum.

The first file is probably not a frequent problem but it is a fairly short subject, that is why I chose it.

Price

How much more do you charge if you stack the hay in your barn opposed to if your customer picks up off the field.

I charged $3 per off the field and $3.50 per anything that makes it to my barn. Just looking for how much more you charge if you stack in your barn.
