Too much drying?

mercredi 10 mai 2017

I've got a field of Orchard/ Fescue that's ready to cut. Finally getting a stretch of warm dry days coming up. If I cut the hay on Sun morning is it ok to let it lay until Wed afternoon to bale? I've got to go out of town for few days after cutting. Thanks

EZ Steer Foot Pedal Help Needed

I got a foot pedal engage/disengage switch for my EZ steer that I have connected to my EZ guide 250 and I can't figure out how to configure the pedal. The instructions that I have are for an EZ guide 500 and apparently they're not the same, because the options that they tell me to go to don't exist. When I go into the configuration menu on my 250, I can't find anything in there that would have anything to do with setting up a remote switch. Does anyone have this same setup that can remember how to configure the foot pedal in the EZ guide 250 system?

How Many Tractor Hours to Make a Bale of Hay?

mardi 9 mai 2017

How many actual tractor hours does it take to make a bale or roll of hay?

Not counting field work like spraying or fertilizing, just the time spent cutting, tedding, raking baling. I know it will vary on the type of hay, the yield and the type of bale.

I feel dumb

I was out Planting some alfalfa and oats today. Yes I know I'm behind but my 70hr a week part time job pushed me back farther than I would have liked. I an using an 8300 John Deere drill that I picked up this year. It has a double run system in it (not ideal). I drilled my oats first and everything went good. I over applied about 5lbs an acre but I'm not too concerned about that. Thinking I was on a roll, I set the drill up to plant the alfalfa and filled it up (about 6 bags) and headed to the feild. Dumb move! 300lbs of alfalfa seed bumped down the road and totally packed itself in the meter. Snapped a 2 codder pins on the sprockets and broke a drive chain within 15 foot of the first pass. After diagnosing my problem, installing new parts, and removing 90% of the seed I'm still bound up in the meter. I'm assuming I need to vacuum and blow out all the compacted seed out and start over. Has any one else had problems with loading too much seed. Also if anybody is a Deere double run guru and can give me tips on how these work, it would be much appreciated

New seeding is emerging!

It is always fun to see new hay coming up. The oat cover crop and the alfalfa are both coming through nicely. Haven't posted for a while. Hope everyone is doing great!

Dock in Hayfield

What is the best way to get rid of dock?  One of my hayfields I rent is full of curly dock.  What is the best herbicide to use and at what stage of growth do I need to spray?  Or is there a certain time of year I need to spray.   Hay is ready for first cut of the season and I would like to have less dock next cutting.
