Just a couple quick questions. Recently picked up a new toy, unfortunately I didn't get a manual. Everything seems to work as it should aside from a few sticky valves. Hopefully they will free up as I use the machine. First question is whether the slide on the bale table moves automatically as the second table pushes bales back or is the something I have to do. Second, what is the lever for under the bale table, it kinda ties in with the handle on the side that raises the bale catches up top.

Strobe Light Install

I'd like to install a high intensity strobe light on my RTCX1100X. I was thinking of something like this:

I will be plowing this winter and turning around on a busy road. I also use it to drive a short distance down the same road to get my mail and it would be added safety. This type uses a magnetic base which obviously won't work. I was thinking of mounting a plate to the roof then attaching to the base. Or making a bracket to attach to the middle rear work light mounting plate.

Any pictures and/or ideas anyone has would be appreciated.

Certified Tick Free Hay???

Is this a real thing?  Sounds fishy to me.  The context is the World Equestrian Games (which are equivalent to the Olympics) are being held in Tryon NC.  Hay used must (according to one of my customers) be "certified tick free".  Short translation, you can't bring your own hay and you can't really get your hay certified.   Total do loop.  I have read on HT about certified weed free particularly out west which I suppose is a export thing, not sure.  But if the info I was given was transferred without error, what possible good is certified tick free hay in NC which like VA has every version of tick known to man, or woman for that matter.

 

Hay imported from out west being sold by the Organizing Committee of the WEGs is going for $40/50# bale of timothy.  Sounds like a scam to me but I am willing to be enlightened.

John Deere 337 Square Baler Missing Knots

Long time lurker here, first time poster. We have run my grandpa's 337 for three seasons now without too much trouble. Late last fall in Oat straw it started missing but we were baling in the snow and unfavourable conditions so we weren't too worried about it. This year in grass hay we are missing between 2 to 50% of our knots, almost all the left side not tying.

I have lifted and inspected both knotters, the right knotter has the roller for the knife arm seized with flat spots worn on it so I have ordered a new knife arm as it is the older style without the snap ring to replace the roller. Nothing else seemed out of place except for the knives being dull so I sharpened them as best I could.

Today I rode on the baler a bit and occasionally it seems the knot gets stuck in the knotters, stuck below the twine disc where the spring thats against the bill hook is. The other thing we've noticed is it quite often will break two successive bales, and it has twice dropped two bales tied together that we've had to cut apart.

I have attached pictures of a few different missed knots today. The first three pictures are the same knot where it appears the short length has not completed the tie but the long twine has. The fourth picture is a successful knot bit doesn't look cut properly. Pictures 5 and 6 are also a successful knot but some of the tail appears folded over back towards the knot which seems incorrect.

I have searched some older forum posts and it appears the tucker fingers have come up several times as causing these types of issues.

Any guidance or suggestions for solving this will be appreciated as we have around 1000 squares worth of hay sitting on the ground and rain forecast for the weekend!

Hardi tr500 sprayers

Been looking into boom type pull sprayers. There are qyite a few tr500 hardi 45 foot boom sprayers out there theymusthave made a bunch of them. Anyone know anything about them? Found a guy with one that he has had since the early 90s, also shed kept and when talking to him it sounds like he always took care of his equipment. He hasnt used it in a few years. Looks to be in good shape from the pictures. Whats yalls thoughts on them? Will be using it to spray pastures not row crop. I have a boomless sprayer but that is for the birds cant tell where you have been. Gps is out of question as there are too many trees.
Figure a $3000 working hardi sprayer would be the cheapest route. Buying a 30-40 foot boom will cost 3k alone.

Storage pricing

Hello folks,

 

A young woman I know wants to buy some small square bales from me and wants me to store some of them for her. She has horses and wants 300 bales but can store only about 50 at a time and wants me to store the rest for her so she can collect them about 50 at a time. I have the capacity to store them in a shed but am not sure how much to charge her.

 

It is just pasture hay that she wants for roughage. She is happy to pay $7 per bale in the paddock. She seems keen to secure supply and is offering me half the amount ($1050) next week as a deposit to secure it. The hay itself would not be cut until probably November (southern hemisphere!). The first figure that came into my head for cartage and storage is $3 per bale but I am wondering whether that is too cheap. I could probably ask her to help me cart it in and stack it. I have some equipment to cart them (truck, paddock loader, stack elevator) but my handling is certainly not fully mechanised.

 

Your thoughts on how much I should charge?
