Chainsaw Stihl MS 170 and Y55 Chain

mercredi 1 juin 2016

Hey All,

I put a new blade on the chainsaw but it seems way too tight in the bar. First chain I've changed so I've got a question.

Packaging says it's good for Stihl and it's a Y55 type. Is it just a matter of getting it turning so it breaks itself in a bit? Or should I try another chain?

459 JD round baler help

I'm beginning to lose hope in getting this thing to work right. I Thought putting new tires and getting it proper hitch higher fixed it but the problem of it plugging has reappeared.

I bought this baler year ago with 3300 bales on it. It's a 2014 and was owned by a dairy it baled some corn stocks and I don't think it was treated well but shouldn't be worn out?

From almost day one I've struggled with it plugging up and kicking the slip clutch. Deere reps have been out 5 times and all of them have resulted in apprently nothing wrong or me doing something wrong supposedly.

This is my first round baler and first time I've ever used one so maybe it is my fualt but more I watch you tube read and talk to people with them I don't think its my fualt.

So far I've thought cleaned greesed and went over it looking for any physical problems. I went though and straighted all pick up teeth and feed slots so nothing it touching or rubbing. If put new tires on tractor and gotten it proper height off hitch. Went though and properly programmed computer. Everything seems to be right. It makes perfect bales and wraps wonderful.

In dry hay 8 to 12 percent it rearly plugs up to about 4mph then it will plug. In wetter hay such as 15 to 25 it plugs much over 3mph and any thick spots in Windows will plug it. Hay 30 and up it really won't bale at all unless windrows are very light.

My hay is grass clover mix and around 2 tons per acre at heaviest I rake 14 to 22 feet of hay together into one window with either bar or rotoaty rake neither seems to make problem any different. My ground is very hilly and it does seem to plug worse going up then coming down hill.

In the year I've owned it I've made around 75 bales and its plugged more then double that. Some bales I've baled 3 and 4 times due to plugging when almost a full bale and having to dump.

I bought this as the back up plan newer reliable baler to get hay out of field fast so I didn't have to worry about brake downs. So far couldn't be further from truth.

I really like the bales it makes and way they wrap. Also dealer is very close.

Brome help needed

Just purchased a new farm with 60 acres of brome 90 percent  brome 5 percent orchard grass, 5 percent fescue

getting soil test. Was fertilized last year. New to brome. We can round bale small and large square. Looks like it will produce 4 to 5 round bales to the acre.

question is can you get a fall cutting most years in Missouri. Or is it one and done. No cattle. So I wondered if the fall could be just small square bales. We sell alfalfa now. Brome will be a compliment to the alfalfa.Thoughts coments would be very much appreciated.

also how  to keep the field  in the best shape possible.

thank you

DTN HAY TIMER APP

Does anyone on here utilize the DTN hay timer app? Can you tell me about it? I was just wondering how well it worked/acurate it is? Is it worth the money? Any info on this would be great!!  It seems like the forcasters are getting less and less trustworthy anymore.  Thanks in advance for the replies....

Reality Check - Cut to Bale....

So we've got a mower conditioner this year.  Just doing some sample cutting for fine tuning the thing, the crimping is most visible on the stem - a dramatic departure from mowing without rollers.  I can see now how the conditioning rolls are going to be a great asset in making dry hay.

Next week - it looks like clear skies, low humidity.  Baler will be armed with an inline moisture meter for live readouts, hay preservative tank will be installed and calibrated (if needed).

I know the drill for non-conditioned hay.  Conditioned hay - looking for some of your typical cut to bale time in days where once the hay is baled you just KNOW dusting just isn't going to happen.  I need to give everyone who is helping a bit of a heads-up of when we can kind-of/sort-of start baling for scheduling.  Weather - of course could scuttle everything inspite of the rosy forecast....

Give me a reality check - with a mower conditioner, how many days from cut to bale are you waiting?  2, 3, 5 - etc.

We are in the mountains of VA, so generally higher humidity, heavier dews overnight and thunderstorms.  Next week, I think we are going to have pretty good weather conditions to cut and bale, especially with predicted low humidity and not much threat of thunder storms.

Mower conditioner, tedder, rollabar type rake and square bales - this is what we have.

It would be great to take-off some terriffic hay from our refurbished fields this year.  We've put in a lot of work to get to this point.  We're close, want to finish the race with some great hay!

Any tips are much appreciated.

Thanks again!

Bill

Also new to the bale wagon world, I picked up a 1049 super for a heck of a price, only kicker several things needed to be reassembled. can anyone send or post some pics of the hydraulic lines from the cross conveyor and bale loader motor and where they hook up on the left side of the machine? This would be greatly appreciated.
