I am going to demo a Kuhn 8 wheel speed rake could any of you give me your opinion likes dislikes and how fast can you rake with them compared to a roll bar or rotary rake. I am looking at this 8 wheel speed rake or a 4221 rotary rake.
I was wondering if anybody would know where I could locate a used center shaft for my Kuhn GF452T tedder? I have had no luck finding Kuhn used parts online.Also I heard New Holland 162 tedder parts are interchangeable?
I've been pondering going to a bale thrower vs an accumulator. Thrower racks seem relatively inexpensive compared to purchasing an accumulator, two grapples and another tractor. I bought a very little used Hesston 4550 this last winter and we absolutely love it (except for the small non-hydraulic pickup!). My middle son (11 yo) is now able to run the baler leaving me and my small 14 year old son on the racks. I work midnights in a hospital and so can't always get the baling done and am tired of stacking and unstacking, etc. I was thinking 5-6 thrower racks and my two boys could bale up 700-800 bales without much help from me. That's all we usually do in most cuttings (small fields) anyways. We have larger aspirations of putting up 10,000 bales a summer when we get more experience and my third son gets a few more years on him.
Long story, so my question is, where do I go to try to find a bale thrower for this older model of baler? It's a Hesston 4550 but also has Fiat-Agri on it as well. I assume there was some sort of merger of these companies back 25(?) years ago when it was made. The normal equipment websites like tractorhouse and others don't seem to sell them and I don't have any other leads. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Tim
I replaced 8 fingers on the NH 256 tonight and realized I could probably use another 8+ to get things how I want them. I also realized every nut and bolt could probably be replaced. I snapped a good deal of brittle bolts trying to get the nuts off... I need to get 5 or 6 back brackets that are missing. I greased it up really good and everything moves freely.
I did see in the manual that you can adjust the pivot ball upwards in the pivot bracket to produce a loose fluffy windrow. I located the pivot bracket and pivot ball but had a hard time figuring out how to loosen it so I can raise the pivot ball to the top of the pivot bracket.
I also greased up the NH super 66 while I was outside. I ran the knotter through a manual cycle and noticed that the knotter that is missing knots seems to have a twine finger out of adjustment. The twine was above the finger so when it moved it did not move the twine. I am looking in the manual to figure out how to adjust the twine finger position so it moves the twine where it's supposed to go.
I did observe that our mounting bracket adjustment is allowing the needles to deliver the twine exactly where it needs to go. Twine 1 is being placed exactly where it needs to be and Twine 2 is being placed right next to twine 1.
I feel like I am really close to getting this baler making good knots on both sides. I'll be back at it again tomorrow... and every day until I get it working!
