NH Haybine greasing help??

Hi all

Can anyone tell me if there is a grease point in the universal joint on the pto shaft about 4 inches in front of the slip clutch? (This is where the pto shaft goes into the 1st gearbox)

And if so how in the heck can you grease it. Access wise I mean.

 

I bought the machine new in 1991 and the operators manual mentions no grease point, only the tongue roller about another 6 inches more forward.

 

Then I was looking at the parts book and there I noticed a PTO uni joint in there, the same sort of joint that there are 2 of on the pto shaft at the tractor end (and which you can grease - and are supposed to every 8 hours)

 

Any advice greatly appreciated.

I may be an idiot.....but

I took my wife's advice and jumped on the millennial bandwagon and started a YouTube channel.  To caveat my last statement I'm far from a millennial, though I did marry into that generation.  I have no idea what I'm doing or where its going but wanted to share with you all, as its based on our small farm and what we do to make it work.  

 

I come from a long line of farmers.  Our home place was settled in the 1790's and still in the family thanks to the good lord.  Right now there's some hay cutting and some disc mower repairing going on.  If you want a good laugh at some redneck that doesn't know what he's doing, give it a watch.  I've learned a lot from Hay Talk and the folks on here and thought It might be a good place to introduce my shenanigans.   I did this to try and show people you don't have to have a bunch of money to do what we love to do, no matter the size of your operations your just like everyone else, pants on one leg at a time.

Deciphering Vermeer Model Numbers

I am thinking about getting in the market for a used Vermeer baler to upgrade my existing 504SI.It has gotten to be a confusing mix of Models and Letters. I will stay with a Vermeeer because of the service options I have local, and a 504 or possibly a 604 size baler. I am going to list what I have found so far. I would appreciate everyone's feedback on my comments and the good/bad on the models/letters.

 

• Vermeer had not completely worked out Net wrap on I or L series balers and it is a real PITA. 

 

• As near as I can tell a I/SI with equal fill/ auto tie and an XL baler is the same baler. The difference is the updated Accu bale monitor. 

 

• The Rebel series is a light duty, low usage baler with smaller rollers, bearings, chains & sprockets. Bale count above  5k or so is a big issue. 

 

• Strangely J and K balers are older than I balers?

 

• L series balers have gates problems not great balers?

 

• M series are very good balers? Any known pros/cons?

 

• N series are good balers? Not quite as heavy as a M?

 

• R series have not been around long enough to grade?

 

• Ranchers series are very good higher production balers with heavier chain/sprockets?

 

• Pro series I know nothing about except the are Welger painted yellow? Is this a bad thing? I doubt my dealer could service them.

I see a lot of M's for sale. Do you think this is a sign that there are a lot of them out there, they are at the end of their life cycle, or are the a POS? 

Any advise on model/series you would suggest and more importantly which one's to stay away from is much appreciated.

I'm a happy camper. I've wanted this addition for a number of years. My pole barn has been packed to the hilt, now I'll have some breathing room in both the pole barn and the shed. Ahhhh life is good. :D

Cant' hold out any longer... need to start spraying for weeds.

So I've held out as long as I can, but I admit it's time to start spraying for weeds in my hay.  There are two main problem weeds that I am dealing with, horse nettle and knapweed.  I know my neighbors field is where the knapweed is coming from, but I'm not sure where the horse nettle came from.  I don't want to just refit/reseed the fields as I'm sure that won't help too much.. just prolong the problem.

 

I do have a 3pt hitch sprayer, but I do not have a pesticide license.  Whatever I use also has to be OK to use on grass/timothy hay fields.  I know I'll probably kill all the broad leaf plants that I don't mind (like birdsfoot), but I'm OK with that if it means I get rid of the bad stuff.  What sprays would work in my situation?  When would be the best time to apply them?

Need parts for Massey Ferguson 20 hay rake

New member here.

 

I need parts for an old MF20 hay rake.  I just dug this thing out of the woods from where it was left back in the mid 1980's.  I remember using it as a youth when we bailed peanut hay.

 

The entire PTO assembly is missing, the wheels are rotted and the rims are in bad shape, lots of the teeth are bent, the belt obviously is trash.  Other than that, it looks to be operational.

 

My questions are:

 

1) Is it worth the time and money to get it functional?

2) Assuming that it's worth it, where do I get the parts?

3) If it's not worth it, is there a place online I can sell it so that someone else can part it out for their operation?

Hustler bale unroller

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with a Hustler SL450X unroller looking to unroll my round bales into small square baler for baling. Otherwise does any one recommend any other brand for doing so. I am looking for a new or used unit. Thanks for any input.
