I cut our 3rd cutting of alfalfa on August 14th so I should cut it again on September 11th. Our earliest frost chance is September 28th, with October 19th being our average first frost. The 10 day for cast has the 10th 11th and 12th at 10% chance of rain highs in the lower 70's lows in the upper 40's. The field looks beautiful and is on track to be cut on time.
So would I be safe to cut the alfalfa on the 11th? And what would the latest safe date for cutting be? What is the rule of thumb for regrowth days, or stage of plant growth needed for the plant to be safe from frost damage?
