New to me Deere 467 net question

I just picked up a 467. I’m working on going through it before spring and noticed the back roller in front of the net wrap box is covered with net. I pulled it out and cut it all off. What causes this? I want to make sure I fix anything that needs work before spring. This is my first Deere baler and first with net. I’m not new to rounds but all mine previous had been twine. Thanks!
