Acid applicator nozzle placement

I recently installed A harvest tec acid applicator on my NH 311 small baler. Install instructions all seem to be on point except spray nozzle placement. It says to point nozzles towards bottom of feed chute, 16 inches from surface with nozzles turned at a 45. Now does the spray pattern need to be perpendicular with the hay as it is on the pick up or parallel. Can't seem to find a picture to help figure this out. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks guys
