Hesston 4550 baler Pickup reel load on gear train

mardi 2 juin 2015

I was balin' a little 1/2 acre grass field (just after balin' some alfalfa at another place) for the neighbor. I had previously set the pickup as low for the alfalfa as I could go with the antiscalping wheels where touching the ground, as I was leavig to much crop on the ground. When I got over baling the grass I snapped the knotter shear bolt. Then spapped a shear bolt on a drive sprocket. finally got the grass baled. My question is does the pick reel drag, if set to low, put strain on the rest of the gear train enough to start poppin' shear bolts? My old NH 269 seemed to pickup crop better than the Hesson inline. I was having knotter issues as well. 'bout every 3rd bale would tie or the knotts were pulling out. The twine looked freyed? Maybe to much bale tension? bjr
