Ergot in Ryegrass that's intended to be cut for hay.

Has anyone ever had problems with Ergot in ryegrass. I found some evidence of Ergot in my hay field. Can grass be harvested for hay & fed with the presence of Ergot if the Ryegrass has matured IE will Ergot fall off with mature seedheads? It's either drought or too much rain.
