Kuhn gmd 66 and Allis 442 : what to look for

mardi 23 juin 2015

I may be going to look at a kuhn gmd 66 and an Allis 442 baler sometime soon and want to know specifically what to look for. I know to listen for squeaks and grinding noses from bearings and gears but what are some specifics about these models. I am a member of the allis chalmers forum and I know the 442's are an odd ball that were made over seas and can be hard to find parts for. I work in a machine shop and have full access to both manual and CNC equipment so the rarity of parts doesn't really scare me but I'm looking for opinions.

I don't know much about the mowers other then to look for obvious bent frames and welds/repairs and listen. What else? I'm pretty sure this mower is going to be a little big for the tractor (kubota l4310) but it might be a sale or trade item on a mower that would better suit.

I'll be baling about 20 acres a year so if it's not the fastest or not the best that should still be OK I think. Any opinions?
