Hydraulic Pump Rebuilder

dimanche 31 janvier 2021

I have a '41 Ford 9N that is in great condition except for a hydraulic leak down when a heavy implement is connected to the three point hitch.

I rebuilt the top cover with new piston, cylinder and rings a few years ago and I suspect the safety valve is leaking.

If I am going to drain the fluid so I can replace that valve, I might as well rebuild the pump. It is the one component I have never touched. By the way, I have huge hands and a couple of bad discs in my back so its very difficult...

My weekend hauler

Decided to get me a new farm truck since I had given my old '93 extra cab GMC to my daughter for her first vehicle.

Wanted something heavier than the 1/2 ton I passed on to her, and I wanted a 4 door job... Found a nice power hoss, '99 3/4 GMC with a 7.4 (454). I love big blocks!
Should pull my tractor pretty good too.

The stickers on the back window are gone now, but we still call it the weekend hauler...

Newbie with a question pausing transmission.

I am not usually the type of guy who jumps right in with a tech question as their first post, but I am a little stuck atm!

I picked up a 2014 RTV-X1120D in July and have used it around the acreage all summer, but nothing major used shuttling the wife and I around planting saplings hauling water. The Kubota works perfectly fine for all of that.

I installed a KFI snow plow in the fall, as we live in a snowy part of Alberta I was looking forward to plowing the gravel drive. I had taken the...

NH Super 1048 Pump Chain

samedi 30 janvier 2021

Been working on my super 1048 this winter trying to get some maintenance caught up on it. I decided to replace the (2) belts  that drive the water pump and alternator and I also replaced the double-wide roller chain that connects the pump to the engine crankshaft since I has to take it off anyways to get the belts replaced. I was able to get master link started, but I am having a real tough time getting the (2) “washers” installed between the first chain and the second. Any tips to get this put together? I really thought the last washer and clip would be the hardest, but I spent 2.5 hours today trying to get the (2) washers on and still no luck. I did stick them together with spray adhesive before I started, but maybe that s part of the problem. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Front Worklights...

I'm hoping to find some good ideas or answers for helping my neighbor to find Worklights that will mount above the new windshield we just installed for him but under the front edge of his roof. The lights he had will not fit now since the new glass windshield install. The lights need to be more slender so as to fit under the edge of the roof but not get hit when he opens his new windshield. Does anyone know where we can get him some lights similar to the EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE John Deere set...

rear tailgate options & winch

We just got our first Roxor in December. This is a work vehicle for our cattle ranch. Can you change the tailgate from a side open to bottom drop like most pickup tailgates? We haul 200 lb protein tubs in the back and usually drop them into Roxor with tractor bucket. Wondering if we could have a regular drop tailgate - then have a winch installed right behind the front seats (2 seater) to slide it in from the tailgate. ALSO a winch behind the seat with a ramp - you could slide one in from...

RTV X1120 Exhaust bracket broke again

Am I the only one with this issue I wonder? We have a 2015 RTV X1120D with about 4,000 miles/976 hours on it. A few years ago, the muffler bracket that is closest to the exhaust manifold broke. No big deal, I welded it up, put it back together and was a happy camper. Lately I heard this similar tinny rattling sound, and found one of the heat shield tabs was broken. No big deal I welded it up and good to go. But.... the rattle still persisted. IT went away when I grabbed the muffler, so off...

What the heck kind of baler is this??

Got a question for some of the old guys, as they're the only ones who would know... What kind of baler is in this video?? Never seen anything like it...

https://youtu.be/7tzvXsH7mQg?t=404

It's a SIDE DISCHARGE square baler... the press chute is coming out above the LH tire and spits the bales out the end, and it's got a  weird bale chute to give them a quarter-turn so they drop into lines like a regular baler...  Just totally weird and I've never seen anything like it.  First question that comes to mind is, "WHY??"  WHY would you want to arrange a baler that way... I guess less shaking back and forth on the tractor as the plunger moves back and forth, since it's going sideways, but HOW does it feed the bale chamber?? I mean it's obviously got a side-pickup like every other square baler had until they invented the inline baler (which feeds from the bottom obviously with the bale chamber above the pickup) so I suppose that the pickup would be feeding the hay onto a table behind it and then a stuffer tosses it into the bale chamber in time with the plunger... but then you have to have the gearbox hanging out over the RH tire... and how do you transfer power to the gearbox and flywheel-- complicated PTO arrangement or PTO running a 90 degree gearbox with a cross-shaft, with another 90 degree gearbox to spin the flywheel??  Or is it engine powered and belt driven??

Crazy looking thing for sure!  Later!  OL J R :)

What am I missing here? Aren’t these “off road” vehicles? If one wants to drive “On Road”... shouldn’t an “On Road” vehicle have the necessary devices to prevent serious injury to others On the Road? Does your RTV meet the normal braking capabilities of on road vehicles? Does it meet the handing and crash-worthiness?
If No... then it shouldn’t be ON the road where it endangers me, my family and the public, IMO.... unless it’s an agricultural vehicle and only traveling between farms...

Diesel Fuel Filtering

I was new to diesel when I got the BX2230 and then the X1120D.

I had to buy a couple of new fuel containers, yellow so that my lovely Mrs and the kids did not accidentally put the wrong fuel in the right tank.

When I get a new fuel can, I rinse it with water thoroughly and let it dry upside down in the sun. Once it is completely dry, I install the ezflow high volume spout and its vent. Once that is done, to insure nothing fell into the tank, I hit it with a little compressed air and...

Idiot needs help with his Deere 530 baler

mardi 26 janvier 2021

So, earlier this year I bought a 530 round baler at auction. I've baled before, but always in small squares. I have the book and read it, and the neighbor asked us to bale his cornstalks for him. I talked with some people who have run these, and it seemed simple. So, today was my first day trying to make a round bale. Yeah, you guys know where this one is going.

For some reason the monitor didn't tell me when the bale was done, the light didn't change, and the alarm didn't go off. Also, the baler didn't start it's tying process. So, the idiot at the wheel (me) thought it wasn't quite full. I went forwards a bit, and snapped a belt. Tomorrow's project is taking the belt off (It's the one on the far right side). Our local mechanic says to pull that one and the one on the other side so he can splice it to the correct length. That part makes sense to me. How to do it doesn't. I can't find much information on this, but I found this thread: https://www.haytalk.com/forums/topic/94258-john-deere-530-baler-belt/

The idea makes sense- remove tension so the belts are loose, take the pin out, and pull it out after noting how it's routed. But, how do I raise the tension arm?

--------------------

Once the belt is fixed, does anyone have any idea why the baler wouldn't tie? Both the orange light and the green light were on the monitor the whole time. The last owner said that it just does that. The book makes me think there's a sensor not working somewhere. Where that is though, I have no clue. Shouldn't the baler have started it's tying process when the bale was full though, even without the sensor? Is there something wrong with the baler that I need to fix, or is it the idiot in the seat that did something wrong?

Frost seeding clover into standing winter wheat?

Does anyone have any experience frost seeding Ladino clover into an existing stand of winter wheat.

I have found some literature that suggests that it is possible.

Wheat harvest for us is typically the last week in June.  (SE Indiana)

How many cuttings of hay could I expect to get, and what kind of tonnage, if you have done this sort of thing.

Thinking I could possibly come out better than the gamble of double crop beans, although if the weather is dry that will affect the tonnage of hay as well.  Also thinking of a better nitrogen credit if I terminate the clover the next spring immediately before planting corn, possibly even getting an early spring cutting, although that might be overly optimistic.

Engine Operating Temp?

How warm should the engine get under normal conditions? Mine never gets very warm and the temp gauge stays near the bottom. I will check it with a digital thermometer to see what it actually is. Maybe need a thermostat?
Thank you for the help in getting this new to me rig going and checking it out.

BTW: I think that the dent in the tail gate was caused by tipping the body with the gate all the way down (no cables) and hitting a trailer hitch that was in the receiver.

anti-foam additives or procedures

Wondering if anyone has thoughts on how to eliminate foam from hydraulic systems.  I have a Case 580B Loader/Backhoe that's got a bad foaming problem .  I've rebuilt several cylinders but don't want to wrap up the job until I can clean the system.  I believe I owe my foaming problem to several years of parking in the Oregon rain.  Now I have space in the barn , so hoping not to recontaminate the system.

RTV900 Motor Oil Recommended

I live in New Hampshire. It gets cold here, not like Northern Canada or Alaska ( I spent 2 years in Alaska's interior and have seen -65º) but down to -20º from time to time. That said, I would not try to start my RTV900 much below +10º. This is a 2010 machine I just purchased and it has marked on the exhaust shield 3½ qts 15w-40. I can't find that oil listed, only 10w30 or 10w40. What do other people use? Rotella T 15w-40? Something from Kubota?

To spray or not to spary Rezilon on my Bermuda?

So the last two years my stand of midland 99, as I have talked about before has started to thin out and not yielded as good as it has in the past with good soil samples and lots of fertilizer and last year I got crab grass pretty bad and unfortunately the crabgrass went to seed before I could get it cut on last cutting. I have been told several things to do and try like to not spray it with prowell h20 for a year and just use post herbicides do to prowell could be causing the stand to thin and to try running a pasture renovator over it to help on compaction and cut up the Bermuda and help it spread and see what happens. So I got a hay king type pasture renovator this winter I plan on using but I am afraid that if I don’t spray a pre herbicide I am going to have really really bad crabgrass issues this year but I also don’t want my stand to thin out more. What do you guys think I should do?

cavitation blues?

My x900 doesn't like going downhill. Whenever the descent is steep enough (not very steep at all) I can push the accelerator from idle to howling yet nothing happens until I get to levelish ground. Then she'll suddenly leap.
Fluid levels check OK; both tranny and tank. what to do? This is uncomfortable since when it "coasts" downhill the engine seems utterly disconnected from the wheels, all the modest braking I get is from the tranny over which I have no control (other than the brakes)...

Farming hay w/ a skid steer

dimanche 24 janvier 2021

Hello all! New here so please feel free to move this if needed!

I recently purchased 5 acres of land. I’m looking to get into farming some hay. Very small portion initially (less than 3 acres) and possibly purchase the lot next to me (6 more acres)

I’ve done a little research and see that most equipment seems to be a 3pt attachment for a tractor. I currently already own a cat 289c2 track machine. I was wondering if it is possible to use this machine to farm the hay from start to finish? Is this possible? Any recommendations? If so any help to point me in the right direction for the proper manufactures is appreciated.

Thank you!

Battery charge level after running

I have battery tenders on most of my equipment that sits during winter months. I'll still start em up and run them for 5 mins or so every month.

When I check the battery charger both batteries on my tractor and excavator were at 100% charged.
After running for 5 mins or more I rehook the battery tender up and it shows that it is charging that the battery is below 80%.
If above 80% a different light blinks so I know both were showing below 80% after running.

Thinking of selling my RTV

I've had it since 2004. I got it all fixed up the way I like it but it barely gets used anymore.
I used to use it for everything but now it's pretty much used for processing firewood and an occasional joy ride. The ATV and tractor can take care of those items.
That's a lot of machine to sit idle and use a lot of garage space. When I say sit's idle, it's only racking up about 10 hours/year for the last 5 years.
A friend stopped by for a visit and expressed an interest. Now we're both...

Kubota KX80-3

samedi 23 janvier 2021

I know they are not normally looked at as hay equipment, but a lot of us have excavators around the farm.  We are looking to downsize from a 12 ton machine to an 8 ton machine.  Our 12 ton machine had some motor trouble and some other issues, so we sold it to a guy wanting to export it over seas (it was a grey market machine anyway) and willing to pay decent money.  Since we are not doing a lot of side construction work anymore, the 12 ton is not really needed and the 8 ton will be easier to move around with a single rear wheel truck, so we could possibly sell the tandem and 20 ton trailer and save big on insurance and taxes.

I am most familiar with CAT and Case, but have had some time with John Deere and Komatsu.  Not really seeing any of what I want in my price range.  Everything I have read is that the Kubota KX80-3 (and its replacement KX80-4) are the best in this size.  I have found a couple reasonable close to me in my price range that I am going to go look at and see what I think.  We will be using it mostly to do work around the farms like some excavation for buildings, slope repairs, stream repairs, retaining walls, clearing, stumping, moving concrete blocks, installing drains in fields, and some small side jobs.  I really like how the Kubota has the side swing that most of the Cat's and John Deere's I have looked at do not, but has around the same lift capacities.  Does anyone have any personal knowledge of these machines and if they would be as good as a John Deere, CAT or others?  Any problems to look out for?  Thanks for any advice!

Trouble getting right part number for rubber sprocket 848 Round Baler NH

Hello Folks;

I am in search of guidance required to repair an older model baler which faithfully bales up all the feed for a small dairy goat herd every season.

A pair of rubber sprockets need to be replaced. These are located inside the bale chamber, centre, at the rear and serve to guide the apron bars. (can be seen in the picture I uploaded) These rubber sprockets are sandwiched between metal plates. My baler's are worn so that the bars are hitting the plates. I was successful in obtaining the front pair (#851221) and they fit fine. But can't find the right ones for the back.

When looking up the part number for these (they come as a pair) I get # 695178. This is found under "Tailgate". The diagram shows this rubber sprocket as having 5 "cogs". My baler has 4. My local dealer ordered this for lack of a better idea, and it came with 5  - won't work.

The dealer here (he is not NH) does not have anything further to offer.

I have been trying to look at other baler models (846,849,853,855) to see if I can find the part, but seem to have trouble accessing  this information and cannot get a picture of the part when I do get the baler.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone who has been interesting in reading the post!

Worming

I know folks know a lot more than me and may get tired of some questions, but here goes anyway LOL....

I finally got my head shoot in along with a small holding corral, I haven't been able to worm in the past but now I'm ready..

Question , is there a certain time of year that is best, my very small herd is 3 cows, 2 are most likely bred back, 1 bull, 2 calf's 8 mos old, 1 - 2 weeks old..

Should I wait till spring ?

If I worm all but the new born now, could I do it again in late spring when the new calf is older and hit them all again ?

I will be using Ivermax pour on....

Thanks, Chris

Peak or Harmony GT on Winter Annuals in OG

Just curious.  anyone using Peak or Harmony on stubborn winter annuals in og in early spring.  It is off label but it is labelled for small grain which you can cut for hay 30 days after application.  Word on the street around here is that multiple folks are using it and I was just checking.  Got some henbit and speedwell that are really problematic.  Will probably use pastureguard but Peak is supposed to smoke both.  PG definitely does not smoke them and it's expensive.

1089 bale wagon hydraulics

jeudi 21 janvier 2021

Im in need of some info on my 1089 stack wagon. The power steering and parking brake have stopped working, and I'm trying to chase down the problem. The rest of the bed hydraulics are working fine. It seems like they might run off a separate pump mounted on the motor? Anyone know if that's correct? Also does that pump run through the main valve body with the rest of the hydraulics.
If anyone has a schematic of the hydraulic system that would be a big help also.

I went to move the machine out of the barn the other day, and after I took off, noticed the power steering wasn't working. I stopped and looked around, didn't see anything, so I tried it again. That time the parking brake wouldn't release and the steering still dosent work. I did check the linkage on the door bar, everything seems to be working on it. Everything else on the bed works fine too, just steering and brake won't release

Have about a 10-12 yr old RTV 900. Has been very solid. No major issues at all. Contemplating upgrading to new one. I have pretty much babied my old girl, but about time to do an equipment upgrade at business. Wondering about this. Will I miss the 3 speed transmission? Is the IRS giving any issues? Any reason you wouldn't advise it? Have all the u-joint issues been eliminated?? What would be the "have to have" factory upgrades/accessories?? Especially since you'll be spending my...

Towing & Fuel Pump

Last night the RTV just up and died with no warning. Luckily I was only 50' from the shop and on pavement. I was able to push the RTV to the shop door but not over the threshold by myself. But it got me thinking about towing. If I had been on the other end of the property and this happened, would/could I damage the transmission in the RTV if I had to drag it back to the shop with the tractor for a distance?

As for why the RTV died and will not restart, it appears to be the fuel pump...

Rolling/Smoothing Hay Fields

Saw a video of a guy rolling his fields with a big drum contraption to help smooth them out after the season. Just curious if it’s something worthwhile to consider? If so, what equipment do you use, time of year, special conditions that make it work better, etc?

I make every attempt not to rut them up in the first place but from time to time notice a rough spot and it crosses my mind. Maybe youll do more harm than good, I don’t know. Can’t say I’ve seen anyone in my area attempt it, but we aren’t really in hay county. My mind wonders over winter.

time to replace the 848...but what to get?

Hello everyone new to the site.  I'm sure its been asked but here goes.  I've had a New Holland 848 round baler for years and have made thousands of bales with little to no trouble. I have run it with 65 pto hp since i have owned it.  but its time to "upgrade".  i would like a 4x5 belt baler with net wrap.  Im not opposed to any brand but New Holland and John Deere dealers are the closest to our farm.  Iwould rather not have to upgrade tractor with this.  i've been looking at the New Holland 640/ 644/ 648 models but not sure if they run harder than my 848.  Thanks in advance.

Introduction and a Question

lundi 18 janvier 2021

I just purchased an older RTV900. In good condition and appears to have been serviced regularly, but high hours. Runs and drives nice and no strange noises. It has hydraulic dump on the bed. Beside the lever for the bed dump is a yellow lever with the lock engaged. The visual shows the lever with two positions and at each end it a "gear" symbol. What does this lever do? PTO? I have been a John Deere guy for 50 years, two cylinder loader tractor and two cylinder bulldozers. This is all new...

X1100c Snowblower alignment rattle height

I purchased a ‘20 x1100c with k-connect plus snowblower and am looking for some owner feed back on pto noise. With hand throttle all the way up and pto engaged I can lift the blower to about 4” off the ground (maybe 1/4-1/3 the way up) before the shaft gets noisy. It’s not a horrible noise but just when you hear it go from smooth operating to that first audible difference where you say that’s as far as I want to raise it. Does that sound normal or do other owners get more angle/height out of...

Storing plastic wrapped bales in pasture with cattle?

Hello All,

My wife and I just bought a farm in Upstate New York that included 20 mini Herefords in the sale. We’re learning on the fly!

Currently we have dry and balage round bales, both wrapped in plastic (solid white plastic, not netting), stored outside but not in with the cows. I feed them every day.

I am looking at the upcoming months of mud and not wanting to create progressively worse ruts in the mud with the tractor. There is a stream with muddy banks in any direction to get to any of the pastures.

I am thinking of taking advantage of the frozen ground and moving all the stored bales in with the cows now, and just moving the feeder ring and opening the bales daily. Of course this would mean following up to pick up the bottom of plastic that would remain when I cut the rest off.

My questions:
Will the cows try to get into the wrapped bales? Once they’re opened, is the remaining plastic at the bottom of the bale any concern? Are there any other concerns I should consider that I’m not seeing?

I searched the internet and the forums and do see this anywhere. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Brand of yellow disk plow shown in Australian TV series McLeod's Daughters?

Anyone besides me watch the Australian TV series named McLeod's Daughters? In several scenes of areas around the headquarters is a very unique interesting looking bright yellow disk one way plow. It appears disks are mounted individually on spring loaded shanks. I was wondering if anyone knows the brand name? I've attempted to get a still photo of this plow but my tiny FireTVstick remote controller kicks my hinny when it comes to my old crippled hand controlling it.

Thanks,Jim

Private Pesticide Applicator Certification

I realize that every state has their own way of dealing with restricted use pesticides (RUP). Here in Minnesota, initially, you have to take a written test to get certified. After that, you need to be re-certified every 3 years by going to a 4 hour seminar. This year, because of Covid, there are no in person meetings. So the U of M offered 3 options.

1) Online exam

2) Online workshop via zoom

3) Self paced online course

I chose #3. At first I was a bit apprehensive about this, but I finished it this morning, and I have to say that I am impressed. Going to a in person meeting is alright, but there are only a few topics covered. If there's something you don't quite understand, too bad, the speaker keeps moving on.

The online course was much more comprehensive with more topics.  If there's something you don't quite understand, you can go over it again if needed. If this is offered again in 3 years, I will choose #3 again.

Beef cows - don't know what I don't know!

Hi all,

New member here on this site from Minnesota, and a total newbie when it comes to cows.  We spent the last 2+ years planting and growing a pasture as best we could given we live in sand.  We are getting two Angus yearlings in April with the intent of growing them and slaughtering in October.  We intend to supplement aside from the pasture grasses, but have no firm plans as to how/what as of yet.  We want to get as good a quality of beef as possible. I'm all ears if any of you have advice, suggestions, cautionary notes, etc.

Thanks!

Kernel Processor

vendredi 15 janvier 2021

Hello everyone, I hope your all having a good start to your new year.
I have a gahl 1275 chopper that came with the farm I just bought this last summer.
I’m looking at selling the chopper and processor and getting a Kuhn speed rake. What I need help with is the value of the processor. The local NH dealer said that it’s like new. He said that new it’s $5000. So would asking $3-4000 be to much? According to tractor house the chopper it’s self is worth $8-12k.

Also, I was quoted a price for the Kuhn SR14 with center Kicker wheels, I thought it was pretty high, $19,000 crate,I assemble .
My neighbor bought the same one 3-4 years ago for 12k.

Developing a calculator app

Hi Everyone,

I built out a simple calculator for my own use and I wanted to get some feed back from the community.

I use it to quickly run numbers on pasture rentals, when buying hay, etc. to check if the numbers I am running in my head are accurate.

The only problem is, since I built it.. I have no idea if it would make sense to anyone else.  Thats where you come in!

No download required, just a screen shot of it for now.

The forage required per AUM is based on 1098lbs per month. I will make this adjustable at some point so you can enter in your own AUM number.

One change I was considering making was the option of AUM per acre or Dry forage per acre as I feel like many people may not know their AUM per acre? Where as our Ag extension has it typically available for various areas where I live.

Look forward to hearing all your feed back. I have a couple others I use as well that I will eventually add into the app.. but I wanted to start with this one and build from there.

Thanks!

Fuel Pump???

From the "Seafoam" Thread a while back:

Hey and glad this has been brought up.............My RTV 900, 05 vintage, has had some kind of fuel problem for a year now. Perhaps 400 to 500 hours...........

With a load, going up hill or a grade it looses power in cylinders. The hill is 15 to 20 degrees and 600 yards or so. It may begin on a simple 4 or 5 degree grade; but usually on the steeper hills. Usually, the engine needs to be very warmed up to hot and the weight of the load may be...

Older model baler for baleage

mardi 12 janvier 2021

Good day to all, I would like some advice on a baler for baleage. Is anyone running a 6,000 to 8,000 dollar baler for making baleage? If you are what baler do you have? Or what advice would there be for a baler in this price range? Would we need to look at 8,000 to 10,000 dollar range, to get a baler that will perform good for baleage. Will be making around 150 to 200 bales. Thanks for your input.

Yield Prior to Kill and Replant???

dimanche 10 janvier 2021

We have a very nice field that remains mostly timothy, but over the past few years, orchard grass and fescue have really moved in. My plan was to kill this field last fall, but between first and second cutting, this field yielded 200 bales per acre of excellent forage tested horse quality hay this past summer and we’ve sold all of it at very good prices in spite of being a timothy mix.

I just can’t bring myself to take down such a high yielding field of hay and replant just for “straight” timothy, though a few customers would like me to do so. They either want straight timothy because that’s what they prefer or they have pregnant mares and do not want the fescue. I’m kind of wrapped around yield.

Question is - when you decide to kill a field of hay, what kind of yield do you get in the year prior to killing and replanting? What drives you to kill and replant.

Just curious.

Thanks,
Bill

Trail riding with RTV

I'm so impressed with this new to me 2015 RTV x1100c. I drove the same trails I normally ride in nicer weather in the Honda Pioneer. Yesterdays high temp was 35, so I'd freeze in the Honda Pioneer. No problem with the closed cab RTV. The gearing is so much different than the older RTV's with H, M and L forward gears. This RTV only has H and L. I never had to use L even once. Some of the hills did slow me way way down. 7mph was the slowest and that happened three times. Still...

How do you slip a brush hog clutch with the cover in place?

I have a land pride brush hog and it seems nearly impossible to properly slip the clutch with the cover/guard installed. Surely we don't have to remove the guard to slip the clutch, right? The access panel is so small it's nearly worthless. Any suggestions?

Purpose of additional flap on New Holland Discbines

vendredi 8 janvier 2021

I was at the Keystone Farm Show yesterday and noticed an additional rubber flap had been added above and rear of the rollers on the discbine they had on display.  Anyone know why New Holland added this?  I believe it would definitely help keep the chaff from building up on top of the rear defector shield, but I'm wondering if it could possibly block air intake enough to help reduce the turbulence/airflow that pushes short alfalfa and finer grasses down ahead of the cutterbar.  The show floor guys did not know.  It is just clamped onto the torsion spring bar, so it looks like older machines could be easily updated if provides any improvement.

Remote Dog Training Collar

jeudi 7 janvier 2021

I reviewed the cow dog thread where training collars were mentioned but no one mentioned the type of training collar they used. We have two 5/8ths border collie x black mouth cur, year old puppies that love to work cows, but are quite head strong and need training. These dogs can't stand to see a cow away from the main herd. They will gang up on her and harass her until she rejoins the group. Unfortunately, these two dogs work from the front of cows and very often hinder movement of the cow in the direction I want her to go.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a reliable and reasonable priced training collar. I think I need a dual collar system and would like for the transmissions to reach at least 500 yards. Greater distance would be okay, and maybe a light on each collar for following the dogs at night, but not necessary.

Grass for baled hay

What non bunch grass works well for baled hay in a northern climate? I have used orchard for years but getting tired of driving over the clumps plus when you take it out of production it is difficult to get the clumps broken up for a good seed bed for the next crop.  This would be baled for horse hay, both as straight grass and as a alfalfa grass mix.

Batwing Mower Opinions

My father and I are in the market for a 15' batwing and trying to decide between a Bushhog 2815 and a Woods 15.60.  They seem very comparable to one another.  The mower would be used for general mowing around the farm, woods roads in our timber stands and occasionally clipping weeds in the hay field.  We've got a Deere 5105M to pull it with.  We don't see many Woods down here, Bushhog and Deere own the batwing mower market.  Deere mowers are nice but would rather not deal with my local Deere dealer.  Have a very good Bushhog dealer 30 mins away and a very good Woods dealer an hour away.  I purchased a Woods Brushbull 6' a few years ago and have been very happy with it.  I'm leaning towards the Woods 15.60 due to the simple blade change set up and the drive-line assist feature when hooking/unhooking.  We use our equipment pretty hard but we don't abuse anything.  I've spent quite a bit of time researching both on the internet and have read a lot of good and bad on both mowers.  Would appreciate any feedback or advice you all could provide before we drop $20k on one.  Thank you for your help.

Accessories that fit other models...

mardi 5 janvier 2021

Greeetings! I just purchased a new RX900 and am looking for a site that might show which Kubota RTV accessories fit more than one model. For example, I see some testimony on the internet from a few owners, and 1 dealer, that accessories listed for the XG850 Sidekick will fit the RX900, though this is not documented by Kubota. Has anyone looked into this before? Thanks!

First Time plowing

We finally had enough snow here on the East Coast to connect the plow to the 1100C and use it. I am so impressed with how much wet heavy snow this machine can push. I have a 6' 8" Meyer Homeplow connected via the upgraded front 2" receiver and it worked out great. The industrial tires seem to get plenty traction even on the 18deg driveway. I also have chains for the rear tires but will not install them unless necessary.

Quicke/Bush Hog Relationship?

I was just looking up some parts for a Quicke loader and noticed Bush Hog lists Quicke loaders on their website.  Has Bush Hog bought Quicke, or are they a distributor for Quicke in North America?  When I type in the part numbers from the Quicke diagrams, they're coming back as Bush Hog part numbers now.

Anyone here have a preferred place to order Quicke parts online?  My favorite local dealer retired last year and I'm looking for a replacement.

Thanks.

2004 RTV900 4 wheel drive question

I a bit out of my pay grade with these machines so let me ask for the experts advice.

I was grading dirt in 4 wheel dive and a couple of times I notice when pushing hard the back wheels would spin but no movement in the front.

Initially pulled the 4 wheel linkage of the trans to check adjustment and it was fine. Lever move in both directions and the linkage was correct at the end of travel in both 2 and 4 wheel drive.

Hey guys new here! Live in Nw PA, we spend about $5k a year on hay. We use about 45 4x5 rounds, 600 1st cut small squares, and atleast 200 2nd cut small squares a year. We've always bought hay but have access to some fields to make our own. We have a low budget so nothing brand new but would like opinions on equipment. I have a new holland workmaster 55 tractor. We would like to use a haybine, may have a lead on one, and a round baler with net wrap, small square baler,a rake and a Tedder. Not looking to spend a fortune but would like to get into it as it could eventually save us money to use other places around the farm. Thanks!

Mac Don is 2011 with 1080 hrs on it and a 16' R85 head.

Case is a 2013 with 1800 hrs. on it and a 16' RD163 head.

Priced identical.

Will be covering 600 acres 3-4 times a season. All alfalfa.

Looking for opinions, thanks all!

JD567 RB wiring help needed

Hey, I need some help

I have a JD567 Silage Special with twine/net

I had taken a couple years off, but got asked to do some baling summer 2020.  I rolled up about 200 1750#ers of grass mix.

Then I was asked to roll up some wheat straw.

all this using twine.

Well, going around a slough on the first round, I hit a depression from underground muskrat runs.

before I could get my foot on the brake, my tractor JUMPED, and broke the hitch on the 567 uncoupling the baler AND pulled apart the wiring plug.

I downloaded the schematic, and got a print out from the local JD dealer.

I got everything back together, what I thought was proper....  BUT

When I have a full bale and it starts to tie the twine, the arms swing over to the Right Hand Side RHS, then quickly back to the LHS, start the wrapping sequence, running backwards, ending again at the RHS...  so I have to use the monitor retract button to swing the arms to the LHS to cut the twine.

Once I realized this, I completed the field and was done....  BUT

now I have been asked to bale MORE next season (perhaps up to 3000 baleage bales)

The new contract would have me surface wrap the baleage.
my NetWrap unit has NEVER been used in the life of the baler, (circa 31k bales to date)

Questions:

1) what wiring issue do I have that makes the tying sequence run backwards?

I have tried to swap the wires on the actuator but that did not work.

Is this a software setting?

2) on my CoverEdge wrapper, the top LHS poly roller that holds down the roll is off, and the rod the roller sits on does not have a recess for a snap ring.

I assume it shall have one as the others do.

can this part be replaced?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Fuse for cigarette lighter

samedi 2 janvier 2021

Hi folks,
Went to use the cigarette lighter on my '09 1100C the other day and it doesn't work. Everything looks fine at the lighter so I figured it has to be a blown fuse. The chart on the fuse box doesn't clearly call out the lighter but there is a fuse labeled "ACC". That fuse looks fine. Is that the right one? Other things to look for if it is? Thanks.

Outdoor Wood Furnaces

I am building a house on my farm property and since there is no Natural Gas I am going with a wood boiler and propane as a backup.

I was wondering if any of you guys had them, if there were models that you would recommend, things to avoid / consider

Going to purchase a X1100C

Going to check out some local dealers this week, hopefully some 0% financing will be available again.
What accessories would you recommend I add from the dealer, lights ... etc?
I'm definitely add a snow plow setup, may consider the snowblower option or broom later.
Anyone running the Kubota V plow here, how do you like it?
Clint

What is the real story with HST oil change x1100c

I’ve always heard that the HST oil and filters needs changed at 50 hours. I’m at 265 right now and pulled out my manual. It states that the filters need changed at 50 hours and then 200 but the oil is good for 400. Is this right? My Kubota L4600 operators manual says the same thing. Also the hydraulic tank oil must be replaced every 200 hours. I used my Dump bed about a dozen times. Other than power steering, what else is hydraulic? One last thing is I’ve read where changing the...

Equipment Trucking

Seriously considering bidding on this item and have no experience in hiring long haul truckers or going rates. Looking at 1000 miles approx. Questions are:

The going rate?

Recommended companies?

Thinking this may help reduce our moving round bale bottleneck for a while as well as neighbors wondering what the hell is that.

Looking at a Big M ll

We have been running 2 NH discbines H7450 steel rolls and a 313 rubber rolls.  Labor is becoming an issue for us and conditioning seems to be a challenge at times, especially young grass. We saw a used Big M with V tine conditioning for sale. We are thinking we could certainly mow more acres per man hour. Anyone have any experience with the big M and or the V tine conditioning. Thanks Bob

New from NH?

Here's a "Talk About Anything" thread - 2021 edition

This is just like the old one, talk about whatever.
The other thread is getting a bit too large so we'll use this one going forward.
The other will remain but this new one should reduce overhead and load times.
