Lodged alfalfa?

We have got a ton of rain and wind here this spring. Plan on cutting my alfalfa as soon as I get the weather. It's lodged pretty bad, I usually like to cut it and leave some stem to get the hay to dry better, plus reduce ash content. Since it's lodged would you cut it really short and try to get it all or cut as I usually do and leave a lot of stems?
