Shop built conditioning rolls

Hey guys. I've got an older NH 1114 self propelled windrower and the old rubber rolls are showing some major wear with small pieces of rubber missing. Also feel that the drying time could be much improved with a better roll. I'm curious if anyone has made their own conditioning rolls out of steel stock and had success?
