A Case 8380 mower conditioner has come available about 45 minutes from me.
I have a number of questions members may be able to help with.
Did this machine come with 2 rubber rollers or only with a lower steel roller and an upper rubber roller?
How well does the steel/rubber combination condition hay.
Has anyone experience in running this conditioner with lower than recommended power.
The manufacturer recommends a minimum of 75 Horsepower but does not specify if that is engine, pto or drawbar horsepower.
PAMI (test number 646) conducted an evaluation of this machine in 1991 and reported the maximum power demand as 30 horsepower (I presume pto horsepower). This horsepower demand is way below that recommended by the manufacturer
There is also an assessment of the drag needed on the drawbar, but is not expressed in horsepower like it is in other PAMI reports.
This horsepower demand is way below that recommended by the manufacturer, What is more the power requirements for the NH 116, an almost identical machine in PAMI report number 538 was given as 46 hp with the indication an 85hp tractor was not really sufficient and that 100 hp tractor should be used.
The reason for this power question is because my tractor choice jumps from 60 hp to 156 hp and a big difference in fuel consumption even with the smaller tractor working hard.
Any help would be appreciated.
