Will We Get any Real Haymaking Weather this Year?

jeudi 18 juin 2015

So, yesterday was supposed to be a break from the heat and humidity that has been plaguing us for weeks.  Sunny and breezy if only for a day.  Wrong!  Heavy overcast and drips interrupted by heavy showers all day and then last night a deluge.  We have had two stretches here this year, Memorial day weekend and 3 days exactly last week to make hay and absolutely nothing else.  And had you paid attention to the forecast, neither of those times looked favorable for making hay, and if you did not push and get it up, the weather following would not even support mulch.  So what is a hay guy to do, watch Oprah?

Then I listen to the forecast and I see Ralph is about to get up to 8 " and suddenly I feel blessed and nurtured.  I am not sure if I would rather have overly dry or overly wet conditions, at least when it is overly dry, you can make what little you have and get it in the barn.   The teff has lodged, second cutting og has lodged and I haven't been to the field of late mixed grass to see what it has done.  I am not sure if we got a 5 day window right not if hay would cure in that time the ground is so wet.

Should lead to a surge in tedder sales, even Teslan has one now!

Probably all due to you guys dissing al on global warming! :P :P
