Was in the coop today wanting to get their option on what mixture would work best to seed some crop ground for a pasture, I would like to take a cutting of hay in mid June then wait 3-4 wks an flash graze it a couple times though out the season, Well they looked at me like I should be locked up. In my area the only seeding one is primarily alfalfa for dairy hay, mostly dairies in this area. Where there are beef cows the pasture has been there since the beginning of time. Because it is to steep to put a tractor on, Anyway the ground I want to seed is goo bottom ground. will grow 200 bu. corn & 65 bu. beans. the fertility is good just had soil test done last spring, Only my 2nd yr on this farm & this area, Where I came from the summers were HOT & DRY an the ground was clay, So this area an growing seasons are new to me . Plus they all think I'am nuts for running beef cows were the combines once roamed. The look the coop manger gave me has me sweating like a $5.00 hooker in church on a July Sunday morning, Any thoughts options and advice is WELCOME HERE Hope to hear some thing.
