I've been looking for a used rotary mower for awhile. Basically want to use it to shred cattails, weeds, some ditch mowing, and maybe at times cornstalks. Been looking for a used mower, but the prices at the dealers have been a bit higher than I'm looking for. Was to a dealer this morning getting some parts and noticed he is a bushhog dealer. He has 2 2815 flexwings on his lot and his new price is lower than most dealers are asking for used mowers around here.
My question is, how much horsepower does it take to run a 15ft? The dealer told me that bushhog claims a minimum of 50 pto hp but he said to use a little bigger tractor than that if your cutting real thick stuff. I plan to pull it with a 5088 ih which I believe has 135 pto hp and 150+ engine hp. I know that would handle a 15ft but would it handle a 20ft in thick stuff?
Another question I have is if I mowed cattails with this, would I be able to wheel rake em and bale em to use as bedding? I read a lot about mulch hay on here and I'm thinking this would be the same or am I wrong?
This bushhog mower looks like a pretty well built machine but so does the JD HX 20 that another dealer has.
