Looking for opinions here.....We farm 300 acres of grass and alfalfa for the horse and dairy market in south central Pennsylvania. We have been running a New Holland H7230 discbine which we try to replace about every 5-6 years. Planning to replace it this winter and are considering options of going to a larger discbine whether it be pull type or self propelled. We currently have 10 wheel kuhn rakes and a 4 star tedder which may be an issue also going to a larger discbine. We would be looking to spend 60-70k for a used self propelled discbine(1200-1500 hours) and 25k for a New 10' discbine. My questions are...Is the time savings and convenience of a self propelled worth the extra money and do they last longer? Do you have drying issues with a wider cutting machine? Rake size and still be able to get the hay dry for quality horse hay? Any opinions are appreciated.
Thanks
