The plan is?

OK, so long story short two years ago lost irrigation water on one of my feilds . I was just starting to rehab it from the previous owner who's idea of care was to pit a cow on it when his freezer got empty. It is now only growing weeds. My plan is to plant in the spring a pasture mix and spray out the broad leaf and add some clover after I spray. Here is the question, I was thinking about adding some grain to the mix when I plant what would you guys do? I am open to ideas just want a strong stand when I am done. The guy I work for on the side Gave me some brewers barley that got dumped when the auger broke so cost is not a problem with that.
