Just Picked Up a New RTV X1100C

lundi 30 novembre 2015

Glad to be here among fellow Kubota Owners.
Just picked up a new RTV X1100C in orange. Now i'm just waiting on the New Boss V-Plow and VBX 3000 Salt Spreader.
I'm trying to break it in before making it work hard right off the bat. Any suggestion? I been driving it around to run the engine at different speeds. I have a UTV Hitchworks Receiver Extension & Transmission Cover on order. My Dealer in Asheville does not carry aftermarket products for the RTV. Bay & Amozon seem to be the best prices for these products. I've been reading lots of post and looking at pic posted and I'm quit impressed with Peanuts work, and others.
I have learned a lot here and hope to learn more.
For now, waiting on snow in the Great Smoky Mountains of Cherokee.

Factory installed JD moisture meter

I am looking at a JD 469 round baler and one option is a factory installed moisture meter that will read on the Baletrac monitor.  Has anyone had any experience with them?  I like the idea on having one less monitor to keep track of as long as they work.  Thanks in advance for your reply.

Re Massey Ferguson tractor and baler

Hi I have a Massey Ferguson 165 tractor and a 124 baler, does anyone know how I would hook up the pressure feed line to the baler, the baler already has the pipes going to the tensioner at the back on the side of the gearbox on the 165 tractor do I take bung plug out and put a hydraulic hose from there to connector on baler, or do I just forget about it and use the manual tensioner, thank you

RTV X1100C Operator's Manual

dimanche 29 novembre 2015

I got tired of running out to the rig to look at the book, and I wanted a copy on my iPad for reference anyway. So, I started 'scanning' it with an app on the iPad. The thing is far from perfect, but it will work. I somehow got the scans switched to 'grayscale' and they should have been B&W for this, but it will have to do. This is part one, about 50 pages of the manual... through the 'Operating The Vehicle' section.
See if you can access it here... you should NOT have to join or anything, just bypass the panel that asks you to sign up and proceed to download.

348 baler

I purchased a used John Deere 348  a couple years ago from a dealership. The deal was they were going to deliver it the next time they came in my direction, a area they came to often according to them. They would call a couple days in advance because I'm not always around where the baler was to be stored. Well it turns out a couple days is more like an hour and a half, and  came often means after a couple, three months of rain on it. When they deliver it, no equal angle hitch, driver knows nothing about it, call the salesman. I called and got "we didn't say one was included". Well sh*t, thought that was a given, can we work something out? Maybe one at cost, something? I can order one through the parts department, standard price, most likely a shipping charge on top of that. Okay fine, not buying there again, equipment or parts. I can get parts out of Washington, pay freight down and still beat the local dealerships price. Long story not so short the reason I could afford it is baler needs some work. Because of the now prevalent rust, paint job and repairs on top of that are  needed  so it's coming apart for work and paint. Are there any updates, modifications that I should consider? Anything that I should look over extra carefully? After market parts? Knives come to mind? A good source for bearings and chains? Any advice would be appreciated.

Spring Planting Timothy

Got a nice strip of field we are reclaiming this winter. It is next to a field of Timothy we established this fall. Thought about putting in alfalfa or teff, but don't really want to hit this strip with round up next to my newely established timothy field.

I'm thinking about just seeding it into timothy this spring.

Anyone spring plant timothy?

What kind of yield, if any the first year? I'm thinking maybe a fall cut?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks!
Bill

Chicken litter on Alfalfa

samedi 28 novembre 2015

We've always applied commercial fertilizer on our alfalfa. Are there any cons to chicken litter being applied to alfalfa fields this time of year to help build the soil. The nitrogen is my biggest concern. Just wondering if there is less worry applying as we are going into winter.

Skid steer hydraulics reservoir...too much air?

Before I get into my concern, hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Bought a post pounder to run off NH L223 skid steer. Post pounder requires a hydraulic hose to "dump" fluid back to the hydraulic reservoir. The fill tube has couple ninety degree bends which only allow hose to go in so far. So each time the pounder slammed down on the post I would loose fluid coming out of fill tube. So pounding post on the first day was a short day. I think I might have a solution by plumbing in a flexible coupler and male 3/4 inch to female connector mated to a 3/4 inch female pvc cap (there is a 3/4 inch threaded hole in middle of cap). The cap is attached to other end of coupler and other end of coupler is attached to fill tube. The dump hose is attached to 3/4 inch coupler. So now the fluid should be contained. Ok, now the question. Should I be concerned as a certain amount of hydraulic fluid is spewed back to the reservoir as the hammer drops is the reservoir building up any pressure? Fluid is displacing air in the tank but the air has know where to go. Anyone come across similar issue?

Field length going into winter?

hello all,

Hoping for some advice here as this has been our first year haying on our 40 acre hay field. Weather was such that we only got one late cut. When the weather finally got better in fall I was unable to cut again. Now I'm wondering if the grass length will affect next year's growth? Length is maybe 4 -6 inches. I'm wondering if it will mat down and mess up the field. I notice all the other fields are cut down to the nubs going into winter.

PROJECT Manure spreader!!!

Bought this spreader for $7,000 last winter and put it right to work.
In MY area, that spreader was going for over 12k at dealer lots.
I really like it. Has auto chain oiling system and third auger. Kinda cool. It Saved me a lot of money in fertilizer, increased my yield and gave me some enjoyable winter work to do. I'd like to give her a makeover. The frame, axles, augers and tub are still pretty solid.
All the c-channel side extensions were FUBARED & rusted beyond recognition. Yesterday I buzzed off all the bolts and pulled the sides off.
Meyers wants ,$1,100 for all 6 side pieces. Probably a few hundred in shipping, too.
About 10 zerks need replaced, they barely resemble a zerk fitting anymore and won't take grease. Don't know how easily they will come out.
One of the flotation tires has slow leak-fix a flat does nothing.
One of the wheel grease hub caps is missing-easy fix
Would like to install road lights, turn signals. Meyers wants $300 for the optional road lights kit. You have to understand my area. It's suburban-semi rural. Lots of cars. Lights & signals are very smart to have.

I could dump close to $2,000 in it. It probably saves me 10k/yr in fertilizer bills, so is it worth fixing up OR should I trade her in and go bigger/newer-used unit? I can already feel I might outgrow it.

Who doesn't like rust?

vendredi 27 novembre 2015

Safe to say no one likes rust. I'm doing some PM on the skid loader and cleaning up the area by the pedals. Using some rust converter paint from Gemplers. Just wondering if anyone has experience with something similar.

So far just scraping and wire wheeling as far as cleanup goes. Spay bombed with a primer and color. Seems to cover nicely hope it doesn't smear off with the powerwasher.

Got to thinking: how much more beer you think would be in the fridge if money wasn't spent on replacing things the metal mites invaded? Man, is it road salt, poop, or just lack of wiping you feet before getting in...I swear metal that had poop on it even after a clean up and paint...just smells like a painted and baked cow pie. Lol.

MF/Hesston Mower Conditioner Rubber on Rubber Rollers Question

Out and about and saw a new MF/Hesston side pull disc mower conditioner, model 1359. I believe this design to be the same/similar to the New Idea 5209 and CaseIH 3309 - with some updates.

The rollers were rubber on rubber. The chevron patterns on them are shallow like the old ticor rollers, but to this untrained eye, looked like rubber, not ticor material, belting type material laminated to make the rollers.

Older MF/Hesston brochures say "Ticor". The latest on the MF website says "rubber on rubber".

Question - was I seeing rubber on rubber rollers or ticor rollers - which unlike ones I've seen in the last which were worn, these and never seen a blade of grass?

Anyone have any additional info/clarity on these rollers and could share, it would be much appreciated.

On a little different note, I know (straightened out on this board - thanks! ) the latest MF disc mowers are rebadged Fella mowers that Agco now owns. Anyone know if the cutter bar on the 1359 has been changed from the New Idea segmented hex shaft design to the Fella design?

I've read lots of great info/reviews on the New Idea 5209 / CaseIH 3309 mower conditioners and if the MF 1359 is still the basic same design, I might consider one.

Thanks again,
Bill

RTV-X900 Transmission Cover and Skid Plate

I recently installed the utvhitchworks Transmission Cover and Rear Skid Plate with Hitch Extension. Great fitting product that serves a great purpose of protecting the transmission on the RTVx that is exposed. Install was quick and easy, with a few minor adjustments both cover and skid plate were in place. Neither piece interferes with the cargo bed. Thumbs Up to utvhitchworks!

Hydraulic Bale Tension

Those of you that have and used hydraulic bale tension on your square balers - is it something you recommend? Or do you get along fine with the hand cranks and springs?

Is your bale density really consistent from bale to bale - especially as the day grows long and baling goes in into the evening and relative humidity and temps change?

Do you set your density (pressure) setting and use that same setting throughout the day and keep it the same for each time out?

Any info is much appreciated.

Thanks!

"Unloading dock" for hay grapple

Hey everyone, I run a Kuhns accumulator/grapple set up. When stacking 4 or 5 high I have a hard time unloading the top couple grabs off the trailer, resulting in dropping bales, ect.
So I was thinking of getting 4 of those concrete blocks, (2x2x6) and running them butted up to each other and than making a gravel ramp. I would then tow the trailers along this and unload.
Any thoughts or better ideas?

Dry Down Question

You've upgraded from the old sickle mower or sickle haybine to a fancy discbine. Now you can cut in the rain, after a rain or early, late or at 3am with the heaviest of dews.

I'm thinking the goal of conditioning the hay is to save a day, get the horse hay dry and ready to bale before the color washes out and the price appearance with it and ahead of the next rain storm.

It is Monday afternoon. I'm off work early to cut my grass hay or alfalfa with the discbine. Halfway to the fields, sky opens up rain comes down in sheets. Hay is ready, any more waiting and I've got over ripe hay. Next two days are supposed to be sunny and clear. Gotta cut and everything I read says a discbine will cut damp/wet hay - no problem. So I go ahead a cut throughout the evening - even as the rain tapers off and into the night as the dew comes down hard. Got my hay cut and conditioned but.....

Have I really saved a day of dry down? Am I going to end up with quality hay?

When you condition rained-on or heavy dew soaked hay - just because you can cut it with a discbine vs a sickle haybine, are you really saving any time? Will the hay be OK and dry out - no problem? Are you effectively conditioning the hay (either rollers or impellers) ?

I can understand and and appreciate the more harsh environments that would otherwise clog a haybine - and being better able to cut around one's day job work schedule is a definite advantage, but are you gaining any time by doing it.

So I cut and conditioned on Monday with the rain and heavy dew. Tuesday and Wednesday forecast is sunny and clear. Thursday is more rain. Can I cut wet in Monday, ted on Tuesday and bale on Wednesday and have dry/quality hay in the barn before another rain comes on Thursday?

What is your experience?

Just curious.

Thanks!
Bill

New Holland 68 plunger slide dimensions

I was doing some maintenance on the new holland 68 this fall and noticed I have a gap of almost 1/2" between the plunger knife and stationary knife. I am not having much luck getting the adjusters to move the plunger and I have a huge gap on top of the plunger.

My plunger knife needs sharpened anyway so I am gonna pull the plunger out of the baler. While I had it out I was going to go ahead and replace the wooden plunger slides. I am not willing to pay new holland's  crazy price so I plan to make new slides.

Heres where the problem comes. My slide are badly worn and I am not sure what the factory dimensions of the slides are supposed to be? I have heard there are drawing floating around the internet but I have been unable to find them.

What material to make them out of ?

Do I need to soak them in used oil after they are made?

Any other tips when doing this job ?

Thanks for the help

Is it possible to only use one rotor in heavy hay? Lots of questions but you guys know more than dealers usually do. Would love a ga8030 Kuhn but was quoted 35 thousand.

Poly twine in 273 New Holland

Has anyone had success with poly twine in a 273 New Holland square baler? I personally have never run anything other than sisal in it but my dad bought the baler new and claims that it absolutely will not tie poly twine. Sisal was perfectly fine until the price jumped to double what you can buy poly for. Is there just some adjusting that needs done or am I better off to suck it up and pay the extra until I can justify a newer machine?

Massey Ferguson 1030 / Hinomoto E2304 question

Hello, I just bought a Hinomoto E2304 4WD with synchro transmission, which I've read is similar to a great degree to MF 1030. I've got some problems changing the engine oil (Toyosha MS142). The oil sump is split in half over the front transmission shaft. A sticker on the fender says (in japanese :pat:) that it takes about 3.5 litres of oil, however I've had to put 5.5 litres in it to show on the dipstick. So now I'm thinking I must have the wrong dipstick installed. It's about 11 inches or 28 cm from tip to the lip of the rubber thingy that seals it. Anyone with a MF 1030 (since I think no one has a Hino 2304) could be so kind to measure the dipstick on his tractor? Thanks in advance.

What do you think is a fair price to ask for the set?

Anyone else out there being told that some dairy nutritionists are telling customers to eliminate forage from thier rations?  I dont mind selling fair hay at a lower price but to make claims that good hay is worth only what straw or soyhulls will bring is absurd. i was always taught that a cows rumen needs long stem roughage to keep the rumen going.  Just wondering what everyone else has heard. These same nutritionists are also advocating western hay over local hay. Sounds like a kickback somewhere. Only time will tell

Adding a hydraulic rolling rack to a 1049?

I am interested in adding the hydraulic control to the rolling rack. Is this conversion possible? This 1049 is the first and only stackwagon I have ever seen so I am not sure how the hydraulic rolling rack is set up on the later models but I assume that it just let the tension off of the springs or something similar. If someone could post a pic that would be great. I tried to look on the parts manual but it didn't show the cylinder.

Thanks

2016 Hay Outlook

What model discbine/conditioner will a Deere 3010 Diesel run??

I picked up a few more acres of alfalfa hay ground for next season and think I really need to go to a discbine to get more speed. My NH 489 works great now but am going to need a little more speed to get it all done as I'm doing the hay on the side while working 50 hours a week. Ill have a total of 60 acres now.  I know the discbines take more power and a John Deere 3010 diesel (55 horse) is the biggest tractor I have.  I'm starting to look for a good used discbine conditioner (kind of a oxymoron I know) and was wondering if anyone is running a similar setup or can tell me what to be looking for?  Id like to stay with a Deere, New Holland or Hesston/Massey as they are the closest dealers with parts.  There's also a dealer that used to sell Gehl close and I've seen some of those for sale in my price range but they've been out for almost 10 years now so the parts availability in the future scares me... Thanks in advance for any advice!!

What model discbine/conditioner will a Deere 3010 Diesel run??

New mower

I'm am looking for a new mower for my operation. I typically cut around 200 acres every year and will probably go up. I currently have a kuhn 9ft disc mower that I went thru last winter (cutter bar and gear box). Now my kuhn is leaking on the bar and after just one season one of disc bearing went out.

I have a 70hp tractor that handled the disc mower well. I'm in the market for either a new mower or an older windrower. I liked the idea of having a wide thin window and not having to unclog the windrower every other pass, but I would go back to the sickle if I found the right one.

So what is a good option for cutting smaller irregular fields on a budget. Looking to spend around 4 to 5 grand. I'd like to stay away from kuhn and all brands repainted kuhn.

Bush Hog HT417 Tedder

Went to an consignment equipment sale Saturday at a dealership.  He was getting rid of "stuff" and opened the sale up for consignment.

There was a new Bush Hog HT417 tedder with hydraulic fold that caught my attention.  It was missing one arm, but overall looked good.  Arm had probably been scarfed off to repair somebody else's tedder.

BH HT417 went for $4,800; new go for about $5,200.  Makes me wonder what this guy was thinking?

The dealer also had a Sitrex tedder, manual fold, sitting behind the shop (not part of the sale).  This unit looked identical to the Bush Hog.  I wonder who is remanufacturing for who?

Case 970 tractor, duals, great condition (I know the owner--he takes super care of his equipment), 5,000 hours went for just $2,700.

Overseeding Existing Stands

dimanche 15 novembre 2015

Ok, I did the major reseeding thing this year.  Overseeded everything I have except one field that is up for sale (does not belong to me).  I overseeded Timothy, overseeded multiple orchard grass fields, overseeded paddocks and seeded new OG in teff that did not get killed due to coop spraying error.

I used a Great Plains 10 foot nt drill, brand new (meaning all the springs work the same) that was clean as a whistle.  perfect seeding depth.

Generally I noted the less competition the better the stand-duh!  By explanation- paddocks in better shape, did not show robust rows of new seedlings, those overgrazed, great rows.  Now this by no means suggests that there are no improvements to the paddocks in better shape, it may just take longer to notice.

Same thing in the hay fields.  less competition, better rows.  Too much growth in the timothy field but I have seen new seedlings.  Will know next May.

Just wondering, anyone stunt their fields prior to re-seeding?

lift arm problem

Have a 220-4 that I put in a lifting strain and now the arms will not raise as high as they should. If I have nothing on the arms they will go completely up (most of the time, but sometimes I can raise them by hand another 5-6 inches) but if I push down on them with my hand they go down about 6 inches and thus will not raise an implement very high ... about 2 inches off the ground with a scraper blade. Pulled lift arm control housing and adjustments seem to be correct per manual. When arms lower they fall abruptly when about 3 inches from ground ....and I hear a click inside the housing ..... any suggestions Thanks

Strobe light kit on RTV-X900

samedi 14 novembre 2015

I installed the Kubota strobe light kit today. I have the plastic canopy and glass windshield. After drilling 4 holes and using included rubber grommets, the install was easy. The kit came with a lighted switch and the wires were encased in the ribbed wire sheaths. I have the multiple accessory wiring harness as well. Next project is to get a set of rear LED lights installed. Just thought I'd share.

X1100C Driving Lights

I started to install the LED driving lights I bought on a recommendation from here. They are quite nice, $20 for the pair from Amazon. I had planned on making my own brackets using ideas found here too, but I discovered that the factory mounts that came with the lights are perfect. So, I decided to mount one and see what it looks like. I took off one of the two-bolt plates that hold the roof on, just to see if the factory drilled the hole for me. Surprise! Not only did they drill the holes, they ran the wires out and into a pocket in the rubber block under the plate. And, the wires have a socket installed already. Cool... but then I noticed that one of the lights is not correct. The holes for the mounting bolts aren't threaded... grrr... I can fix it, but I shouldn't have to, so I put everything away and sent a note to the vendor. As I was putting them away, I came across the original tail lights for the RTV. The turn signal kit comes with new tail lights it seems, AND, it appears that one of the plugs on the light will fit the socket for the driving lights. That was good news.
I'll get pics of everything when I actually install the lights. Snow headed this way.

Dolly for semi trailer

Purchased a 48ft semi trailer for hauling hay this fall and would like to get a dolly to tow behind a tractor.  Don't want to back the breaks on and off every time we use it on the dolly for the tractor vs with the semi.  Was wondering if anyone know the cheapest and simplest way to do this. Thinking of getting an inverter and running an aircompressor mounted on the dolly to the trailer.  Was curious what size of air compressor and inverter one might need to set something up like this. Or if there was a better and easier way to accomplish this.

RTV900 Rear Fender extensions

vendredi 13 novembre 2015

Didn't know for sure what to title this thread.

The other day my 6 year old Granddaughter was in the shop. She was looking at the RTV. With a wrinkled nose she pointed at those rubber rear fender extension things and said "what's that?".

Okay, I can't be uncool in my Granddaughter's eyes. So something has to be done. :)

I removed the front "rubber flaps". Then tried to design something that would be effective, durable and fit the look of the rear fender guards. This is what I came up with.

Built them out of some scrap sheet metal I had lying around. Used 1.25" square tube for the vertical brackets. 3/4" square tube for the fender brackets.

Took some head scratching to get them to be effective and still not be in the way when the bed is raised/lowered. Think I got it, but time in the mud will tell.

X1100C front lower Ball Joints

2,289 miles and both ball joints are shot. Had the machine in for service/recalls and since I just changed tires I told them to check the toe in 4 me. All other joints including those weird sloppy rear ones seem fine. Did a complete overhaul, they lowered the RPMs to allow range shifter to work easier. And to improve power they adjusted VHST pump.

As he put it, he's gone over it from horn to hoof! LOL

I am still not thrilled with this machine.

But keep an eye on those front lower ball joints.

Cattle guys What can I expect to make?

Cattle guys:

Lets say I buy a farm with room for 25-35 head of cattle. I will supply my own hay for winter months. I have an excess of cattle hay each year that ends up going to mushroom, so that wont be a problem.

So anyhow, whats my upfront cost for calves? Im hearing $2.50/lb so a 300lb black angus calf is $700/each. Sound right?

So now the big parts: how long till ready for market? I hear 20mos.

What can I expect for selling price fully grown? what is butchering cost?

I dont even know how to sell it to!!

Help me and my wife figure out what we could make of 30 cattle, I supply hay and "labor". Thanks

Planning bed rails for X1100C

I started working on a plan for bed rails for the new rig. Looking over the threads here gave me ideas so I started measuring for the metal cutting. I used cardboard and duct tape... what else?
It seems there is more room than I thought. I won't have to bend any tubing to clear the window grill.

There should be plenty of clearance. I plan to use square tubing, but I haven't picked it up yet. I think there should be a cross piece between the two sides, at the top of the short riser behind the grill. A rubber flap should stop anything from falling between the grill and rack. A removable taller rack can hold ladders and things like that.

I was disappointed to notice (finally!) that there is NO bed liner. The quote showed factory installed liner... grrr... Now to get back to the dealer.

hogs and hay

I usually only raise my hogs on whey grain and water. Finishers in the fall get some pumpkin and apple in the mash for a treat. I just like the the way a Yorkshire raised and finished on grain tastes. The other day I threw some hay from some reclaim acres in the pens for bedding. Darn hogs left their mash and started tearing up this mess of goldenrod burdock briars old orchardgrass and fescue. They love it. Is there something the supposed complete ration from the feed store is lacking? The ration is based on ddg soy corn and alfalfa meal Beet pulp mineral and vitamin package. They have been gaining well as always. Manure is fine.

Antifreeze loss in reservoir?? X1100C

mardi 10 novembre 2015

Hi All,

My 2014 X1100c has about 45hrs on it and I just noticed that the antifreeze reservoir is below the "Add" mark. It use to be midway up the canister between low and full. This is a closed system so where did it go? No leaks, no smoke, no sweet exhaust odor, oil is uncontaminated? It's probably missing about two cups. Could it have burped air from the system after all this time? :thankyou2:

Edmund Fitzgerald sinking remains a Great Lakes mystery 40 years later
By Edmund DeMarche Published November 10, 2015 FoxNews.com

It was exactly 40 years ago Tuesday when "the winds of November came early" and took the legendary Great Lakes freighter Edmund Fitzgerald and 29 souls to the bottom of Lake Superior, a disaster memorialized in book and song that remains mired in maritime mystery.

The 729-foot ore-carrier, called the "Queen of the Great Lakes" sank during a brutal storm on the eastern section of the lake, but the exact cause of its demise continues to elude experts and historians. From the plausible explanations offered in Gordon Lightfoot's haunting classic, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," to crackpot theories involving space aliens, theories abound as to what caused one of the 20th century's best-chronicled American shipwrecks.

"There were no survivors and no witnesses and we will never know, definitely, what happened on Nov. 10, 1975," Fredrick Stonehouse, the author of the 1982 book “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,” told FoxNews.com. "We do know that the crew must have thought, 'We're hurt, and there's not a damn thing we can do about it.'"

2016 RTV X1100C or Honda Pioneer 1000?

I was about to the pull the trigger on a brand spanking new 2015 RTV X110C but since it was nearing the end of the 2015 model year, I decided to hold off and see if anything new would be announced for 2016.

New for 2016 the RTV X1100C will have a front PTO option which will allow the use of some new implements. The one that I’m most interested in is the 66-inch snow blower with a standard hydraulic chute rotation and deflector. This will come in handy for me for clearing the driveway at home or up at the cottage.

I was dead set on the 2016 RTV then along comes the newly announced Honda Pioneer 1000. The specs on the Pioneer are quite impressive:

- 74hp
- 72ftlbs
- 1000 lbs payload
- 2000 lbs towing
- 6 speed dual clutch gearbox (no belts)
- high/low range t-case
- 2wd/4wd – locking front and rear differentials/turf mode
- auto/manual – paddle shifters
- 12.9 inches of ground clearance
- high top speed > 60mph

The Honda would seem to me as the best of both worlds – excellent utility capabilities and can also be used for recreational activities

Now on to the negatives:

- not a diesel so fuel economy will suffer
- cab is an afterthought – very expensive and doesn’t look to be as tightly sealed as the RTV but don’t know for sure?
- no AC and heater also seems to be an afterthought
- no PTO or hydraulic accessories
- expen$ive – approaching $30k with cab and some comparable options to the RTV

So the big dilemma is do I choose the tortoise or the hare? I don’t need the speed of the Pioneer but it would be nice on occasion to take it on the trails. Quite frankly the only thing that is holding me back on the X1100C is the frequent mention on this and other forums of the RTV labouring while climbing up steep grades. I will be using my UTV to do various tasks (hauling, plowing and/or blowing snow, etc…) where the terrain can be quite steep. I also get the impression that the RTV is more solidly built and will stand the test of time.

Think I’ll wait to see both in the showrooms then decide which is best for me.

NH 313 mower

I am looking at trading mowers and my dealer is pushing the new 313. I have not been happy lately with New Holland but dealer is great. Anyone here used one or own one?  Biggest problem with my H7450 is it is not crimping like it should. . It is 4 years old and has about 6,000 total acres.  I am tired of the dealer as well as other company dealers acting like this is an enourmous amount of acres and that the machine is wore out. I would understand if they cost 10,000 but 40,000, come on lets get real. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated, Thanks

Flail type manure spreader question

I've got a couple regular manure spreader, a new idea 217 and an IH 515(?), and found a barrel type flail spreader a guy is selling cheap. Are they any good? They seem popular in Europe, been checking out YouTube videos.

I like the simplicity, but am curious why they never caught on. They would appear to be messy, but most are anyway.

Ever run one? Do they spread OK? Should I run away?

I hate working on my new idea's chain links/front idlers. I either need to come up with a different design or get rid of it.

For $4-500 I may take the risk.

Here's a video of a similar unit I found on YouTube. https://youtu.be/jtTrRV_WFqY

Thanks.

Kubota 900 RTV help - no power

I have a newer X900. bought new earlier this year. has about 400 miles on it is all.

ever since new this thing will barely climb a hill (40 degree) in low gear. it stinks bad when trying to climb. I know you can't floor it.. you have to back off the pedal. I have to use about 1/4 - 1/2 pedal for it to even make it up.. it'll hit about 5-6mph and barely be able to keep that up the hill. with any type of load (200 lb+) it will barely make it.

A month or so ago I changed all the recommended items for the 50 hour service with 0 change.

It'll barely hit 20mph on a flat road.

I use a fuel tank with twin filters to deliver fuel to all my equipment.

I'd take it in but the dealer is a 2 hour drive away.

pretty sad that a machine that costs this much can barely move. My neighbor has a old 1100 w/ 1500 hours on it and it will do circles around mine.

any help is appreciated. thanks.

No 12VDC on RTV900 Electric System

I've had no problems with my RTV900 since buying it new in 2006. That is, not until the present one, described as follows:

My OEM battery began showing signs of weakness a few weeks ago when I had to put a charge on it in order to start the machine. Yesterday, it again would not start and I checked battery voltage and it was down to 10.5vdc. So, I saluted it, thanked it for 9 years of faithful service and replaced it with a new one.

I installed the replacement with a reading of 12.7vdc. When I tried starting the 900, the starter did not respond. I switched the headlights on, darkness. I pushed the horn button, silence. Wow.

I checked the battery cables and all look good. The ground is grounded and the positive is positive. I checked continuity on all the fuses, all OK. I tested for power to the fuses and there was none. Ah Ha!

I tested for power at the starter terminal where the battery connects. Yes, there was 12+VDC on that terminal. I tested for power at a little plastic connection on the starter that has a wire running to the electric system (to alternator, et al) and I see none at that little connection on the starter. Ah Ha!

My questions:

1. Should there be power at that little connection on the starter? I would assume so, since it seems to be the only electric connection for the battery to the rest of the system after the starter.

2. If "yes" for question 1, is the lack of power at that little connection likely the reason for my no-power condition to the rest of the system as described?

3. If "yes" for question 2, how can this be resolved? Can this little connector be replaced. If so, how? If not, what needs to be done?

Any other observations on what my problem might be are welcomed.

Thanks!

Black Safety Limit Curtains for Mower

I just picked up a John Deere 1460 Mower Conditioner as my JD 1326 is reaching the end of it's useful life.  I need to replace the Safety limit curtains as they are tattered missing chunks of material and could allow rock chips or any solid object to become a lethal projectile.  I am absolutely shocked at the prices of these items.  They purposely make you buy some of these items as rush (machine down)  and will not let you order "stock".  Does anyone know were I can buy this canvas like material in bulk?  I am pretty sure I can duplicate the patterns.  Thanks for any help you can give me.

Recomendations on purchasing a round baler

Hello! We have just purchased a 180 acre farm in Hillsville, Va with about 95 acres pasture/hay ground. I would like to run 60 or so head of cattle and hope to be able to rotational graze. I will look at stockpiling 26 acres of Fescue for winter feeding...not sure that will be enough, so thinking I had better look into a reasonably priced round baler. I would welcome your recommendations.

I have a NH TN55 4x4, but its rated at only 35 drawbar horsepower...so it will not handle much! I have a NH 278 square baler and it is really more baler that the tractor should handle! Is there anything in a round baler that would work...short of an old Roto-Baler!!!

I have thought of looking a larger tractor, but I really would like to get the rotational grazing and stockpiling to work and avoid the baling, if possible.

I am not a farmer...just a city boy who's always wanted to have a small cattle farm! I have 6 acres of coastal hay now that I play with...but, that's where what pitiful little knowledge I have ends!

Thanks for your help and God Bless!

Jimmy

Does anyone else on here use diesel fuel treatment in there Rtv's?? I use Howes Diesel Treatment. My fuel injection guys say it really helps the pumps and injectors. McHale 995LM small, square wrapper

I've just bought a McHale 995LM wrapper from a private seller, it's done about 14,000 wraps since new.

I've just posted a short essay here about todays first experience with it.

The purpose of this thread is to ask about a specific problem I encountered today.

Most of the bales coming off the wrapper seems to have large pockets of air in them under the plastic wrap.

Is anyone else here using the same model ?

Encountered similar problem ?

Thank you

What to Seed in a Wetter Soil

I have the opportunity to make hay on about 25 acres of a heavy, wetter type soil.  It is near an area watershed and some of it hold water after any significant rain.  Right now it it has a combination of fesuce, johnshon grass, and some clover. I would like to have something that will stand up to the wetter, heavier soil, but also make good tonnage.  This will be round baled and feed to cows, so I don't have to deal with horse people's taste on these acres.

Thanks

Shifter stuck in reverse, 2004 RTV900W

I backed up to the barn door. It's a grade. Done it several hundred times. I usually flip the lever out of reverse just as I'm stopping. I didn't this time. When I got back in and tried to get it out of reverse, it resisted. I tried all the usual tricks, none worked, then I pushed on the lever, apparently too hard because something felt like it gave a little then the thing snapped into the neutral position and wouldn't go anyplace else.

I called the service folks, they send a man over. He couldn't get it freed up either. Said they have to take it to the shop. Yuk. I hate it when things to go the shop.

I looked at the parts manual and the service manual. Looking at the parts list, D20500 Range Gear Shift Fork; it looks like I can remove a cover (D2100 Range Gear Arm) on the top that has a shaft that moves left and right, as well as another arm. There is a lot of linkage, but I can deal with that.

The parts diagram for the shift fork shows a pin that stocks down from the range gear arm that appears to slide into one of the other of a pair of shift forks. It acts like it's slipped out of the notch on one of them and can't go back. My theory is that if I take this thing off, the pin will come out, the forks can be slide into alignment, and the thing reinstalled.

Have any of you had this problem?

Have you taken this thing I'm talking about off and been able to fix it?

Thanks
Fitch

H&S Action Rake

vendredi 6 novembre 2015

Just wondering if anyone has used one of the H&S Action Rakes?  We are raking iwth a single side delivery rake, but I have been looking at going to a 8 wheel rake.  I have used my cousins older Vermeer wheel rake in the past, so I kind of know how to use a wheel rake.

Thanks

Greg

BHT-2 Baler Mounted Hay Moisture Tester

Just bought a  BHT-2 Baler Mounted Hay Moisture Tester  with two sensors . I didn't know when i bought it that it had a cut side and a non cut sensor. The instructions only tell me how to install for a conventional baler, i have a small inline baler. Does anyone know where i should be installing the sensors? Or does it matter ? Or will i just have to learn how to read the moisture output and cross check it with a hand held tester?

Updates needed

I've been incredibly busy lately and haven't been here as much as I'd like.

I have seen some great posts/threads though.

I'd like to update our Sticky thread "Index to some popular / useful RTV threads" with threads that have come up recently that are worthwhile to keep in our index for easy reference.

Can y'all reply to this thread with a link to any recent thread (recent being the last several months) you find worthwhile to keep in our index?

Thanks in advance.

Lift Kit Homemade RTV900 1"

Decided I'd build a lift kit. I'm always dragging my butt thru the timber. Thought maybe a 1" kit and then 27" tires might help that problem.

Started with the front. Built six 1" spacers, three for each side. Had to take the strut nut off so I could get the top bracket off and drive out the knurled bolts so I could replace them with longer bolts.

Putting that back together was a bit of a challenge. I didn't have a spring compressor so removed the springs, clamped them in a vice, wired them together, then installed and cut the wire after the top bracket was refastened to the strut stem. Sorry I didn't get pics of that process.

Which is best with regard to tire width.

I'm sitting here pondering tractor tires.   European tractors typically have very wide rear and front tires with very few dual tires.   But we rarely see that in the U.S.   While I know you wouldn't want wide tires for row crops what about for hay if you don't plan on using the tractor for row crops?    Would dual tires be better then a very wide rear tire?   And then wide front tires as well.   My JD 7810 has 520 wide tires on the front and duals of 480.   Each.   I like it for hay as it means less compaction.    But you sure couldn't do much row crop work with it.

rock rakes, rock pickers and loader buckets

mercredi 4 novembre 2015

Who has them?  Which ones do you like and which ones to avoid?     I have lots to pick of softball to soccerball sized ones before spring seeding.    Was thinking of buying a good rake and then loading them in a gravel truck with a rock bucket on one of the tractors.  Is this a good plan or do i need to invest in a picker too?   I like the gravel truck idea so i can haul them back to an erosion ditch a mile away that needs filling.

Gauge wheels on a NH 216

Has anybody ever added any gauge wheels to a NH 216 rake?  Ours has the factory ones, but they are too small.  If I can add others to it, it would save me from buying another rake.

Hand Throttle Install RTV900

Ordered a Hand Throttle Kit thru Messick's last week. Installed it this morning. Took 20 minutes. Could do a second one in half that time. Pretty straight forward.

Kubota does a very good job of marketing option kits. They call them Whole Goods kits. And each has it's own specific number. If you spend some time on the Kubota.com parts site you can find the part number yourself, which is what I normally do. This kit was the 7th Whole Goods kit I have installed. I've never had a problem getting a bad kit. They always have had everything I needed and sometimes additional parts due to the kit fitting different models. The instruction sheet even has excellent photos to assist.

The Throttle Kit for the RTV900 is KTC-W/G-#V4241.

Grapalator-Accumagrapple a few threads. Little feedback

mardi 3 novembre 2015

I've been looking into the idea of the Accumagrapple or the grapalator for our operation. I've read a few threads but so far, (a few) but not many have actual feedback from use. Some will not entertain the idea because of the dominancy in efficiency of a kuhns and such, and I understand that. But for the smaller scale producers, those aren't cost efficient. Any feedback from use welcome! Our main use would be for alfalfa and wheat straw.

RTV-X900 Instrument Cluster

On the 2015 RTV-X900, are the display lights for seatbelt and headlights supposed to illuminate during operation? The parking light and glow plug lights are working, yet I do not see the others come on at all. Thanks

RTV-X900 Shift Lever

Just purchased a 2015 RTV-X900 new from the dealer. Great machine thus far. I wanted to know if other owners find it difficult to shift from Neutral to H or R gears? Many times the lever will not engage in either direction and I will need to tap the gas pedal or rock the RTV a bit. Thanks

Swather

Want to hear all the good bad and ugly about a New Holland 1499 Swather. Really don't want a pull type discbine for various reasons biggest being the lay and size of our fields don't lend its self to running much faster ground speed. Never had any problems with sickle mowers in the past. Just think the maneuvering ability and added width of a swather will overcome the slightly higher ground speed of a discbine in our situation.

Conveyor belt

I am thinking of using a conveyor belt to feed hay in my baler from my processor. Problem is I cant find any used conveyors any ideas?

I knew it..RUST!

It can be saved! I finally pulled out the plastic bed liner where I suspected moisture has been trapped since 2006. I have owned this for 2 months. It is a very sound RTV! Maintained well by the previous owners (a cemetery) who parked it indoors. I see why the new RTV's have eliminated the plastic bed liner.
