Sub soil irragtion

I am totally new to sub soil drip irragtion, but the thoughts of never having to worry about drought again would be awesome! Where I live river land is more expensive to buy, but I wonder if the extra cost per acre could be offset by using sub soil drip irragtion with the increased tonnage of orchard grass and alfalfa? Wonder what kind of tonnage increase I could see per acre? The thought of farming less acres and making more hay per acre sounds great!
