I'm out of ideas. A couple years back, we purchased a used 273 in "cosmetically" good condition. After our first season with this baler we learned it was rather finicky. Baled the second season after some minor adjustments, and all was well. Baled the 1st cut this season. Hay was put up. Baler was left untouched in baling condition and now we are having a problem after attempts at baling our second cut. The problem seems simple but we can't figure it out. From the first bale out and every one thereafter, the knots are coming out only half completed and "cut" approximately 1" after the knot (towards tractor) on both twines. There is no chaff or other indication that the twine is breaking or getting roughed up by jagged metals. The twine fingers are clean, bill hooks seem to have decent tension, and twine holders are also snug, and no excessive wear found. Here is the kicker. If I have someone run a dry cycle manually and pull tension on the #1 twine to simulate a bale, it ties perfectly. Put hay down the chute, and nothing. I have also adjusted the pressure to the bales in both directions as much as anyone should, and it seems all timing indicators are within their respective limits. Any thoughts?
note: second cut is about as lush as the first, as we have had crap for rain this year in western mass.
