Discbine, High Skid Shoes and Lodged Hay

vendredi 7 juillet 2017

I understand that a sickle haybine can clog on lodged hay, whereas a discbine plows right through. But how well does a discbine cut the downed hay? I had some lodged Timothy in my last cut, most of it - it seemed the reel on my sickle haybine would pull up/into the cutterbar. Sometimes the cut would be great, other times, I had some extra tall stubble...😏

What about a discbine? There is no reel, no mechanical means to lift the hay up/into the cutterbar. Does the discbine just glide over the lodged hay, leaving most of it behind or what?

I guess if you are cutting 1 or 2 inches off the ground, you're going to cut pretty much everything. But what about with high skid shoes installed? We have our haybine (Hesston 1110) set at max stubble, 5 inches.

Just curious.

Thanks,
Bill
