3pt Disc Mower - Caddy Questions

mercredi 30 septembre 2015

To gain mowing height with a 3pt disc mower, one screws out the top link, tilting the pitch of the front blades up. As the blades spin around to the rear, do they then just cut that much lower - just on the back side? Any rule of thumb max pitch?

How much bar weight/pressure is rested on the ground when operating? Just barely floating or heavy enough to leave skid shoe grooves in the sod - especially after some rain?

Obviously disc mowers require a goodly amount of hp. Is that totally disc driving hp or another way of driving the user into a larger/heavier tractor for weight and stability? I've read a few posts on some forums that suggest a caddy mounted disc mower requires less hp. Any truth to this?

Hills and a caddy mounted disc mower - bad idea?

I suppose every 3pt disc mower has some desired height at the hitch to the ground, like 15 or maybe 20 inches. Easy enough to set when mounted to the 3 pt lift. How is this vertical height set on a caddy when a disc mower is mounted to it? I assume a caddy wouldn't care if a Kuhn or Krone or NH is mounted - or is every caddy specific to a specific make/model disc mower?

Thanks!
Bill
