Straw - Square Bales - Questions

Got a coupe of patches of ground that might be candidates for annual (winter) rye grass.  Seems like I've heard of folks planting it for straw.

 

Please tell me about straw - what to plant, if annual rye grass is suitable, how difficult to harvest (there would be no combining), how practical/hard/easy is it to grow and who do you sell it to?

 

The thought is to plant annual rye grass now, perhaps cut it in the spring (don't know), kill everything down and plant teff until next fall and replant with OG or Timothy.

 

Where does straw fit into the above - or maybe it doesn't.

 

Any sage advice is much appreciated.
