treating canvas swather 'belts'

So, I am reconditioning an old IH 230 selfpropelled windrower... I will mow a max of about 10 acres a year with it and will tarp it (no shed for him).

 

The canvas is fully functional, but faded and the wood is a bit tattered - yet it works fine.

 

My question is, can I treat it with something like Thompson's perservitive to prolong the life?
