Should I buy NH 258 rake for backup?

Went to an auction today was talking to one of my dad's old buddies herd him Say he has some hay equipment for sale so I ask what you got . So he has two rakes for sale both NH one 256 other 258 $600 for 256 and $800 for 258 both older rakes probably haven't seen a roof since they left the factory. I have a rotary but some days we could use two rakes and if hay is good and dry why not have a cheap backup/2nd rake . I'm interested in the 258 says it has all new teeth but might have gear box trouble neighbor borrowed had trouble and didn't return for a while so he wonders wether the guy fixed it or not. So worst case I need to fix gearbox what am I going to get into a gearbox.
