grass buildup on the end of disc mower

has anyone had trouble with grass buildup on the end of a disc mower. Had this happen tonight and it jammed up the hats to point the belts almost stopped. Fortunately I stopped the mover before smoking the belts. upon inspection it had grass wrapped around the last hat with the cone on it. Anyone have experience with this? How to prevent this?
