Stubble Height vs Tons Per Acre

Got a field of mixed Timothy - was straight Climax timothy, but seems like everything else wants to grow in it too...🙁

Sooooo - I'm giving this field a closer cut and overseeding this fall.

I've been cutting as high as my trusty Hesston 1110 sickle mower conditioner will cut - 5 inches. Today, I took 2 inches out of the cut to give me a 3 inch high cut and the difference in just that 2 inch stubble height is amazing.

Any rule of thumb for 1 inch stubble height vs typical ton per acre?
