Vicon segment rollers alternatives

Looking for some input on and idea. I found a place that has sell polyurethane and rubber blocks very close to a 2 x 4 size . What about drilling and screwing them on? Bolting them on?
I read about a guy that did it with psi treated lumber, maybe a cheaper alternative than steel rollers, or other costly ideas,
