Vermeer 605F Baler Belts not Rotating

Thank you upfront for your time and advice.

 

I have a Vermeer 605F baler that the belts have always rotated once the PTO was engaged even without rolling hay. The other day a link in the larger longer chain broke and once i got that back together, the belts don't rotate but the rollers do. I can help move the belts along a little bit by manually grabbing them but they don't stay moving.

 

I've read on here where some baler belts don't start moving until they start picking up hay, but it just seems odd that mine did before the chain break. I'm wondering if i'm missing some other piece to this puzzle.

 

I might have to pick up some hay to see if it works but i thought i would try to fix it while i don't have any hay on the ground.

 

Any help is appreciated; it seems when things are running fine you don't really think about how they operate.
