vermeer 5410 rd baler

has any one changed out the pick up arms that hold the cam bearings in place for this baler.All four bearings desentegrated on my baler and the arms that hold them in place were bent.I changed all this out myself but had to drop the entire pickup shaft to do so which ment removing the left side of the baler.Is there an eaiser way and what would cause this type of failure on a 5 yr old baler with only 400 bales thru it?The cam bearings are easy to remove externally but the arms they bolt to caused me to have to drop the shaft any advice would be appreciated since dealership seems very shy to questions. rebel 5410
