Ford 530 help

I went to use our new to us Ford 530 baler yesterday and it worked fine for about 20 bales and then both needles broke. The arm that goes up and kicks the needles to tie was completely out of the slot (between the large washers). I dont understand how it got out. I am assuming that is why the needles are broke. How do I tell if the baler is still in time? I have a manual but pages 21-36 are missing. Any help would be great. Thanks
