Timothy Reproduction?????

Other than seed falling off the seed head and repopulating, can anyone explain how Timothy reproduces more Timothy? You got a bare spot in the Timothy stand, with no rhizomes, how does Timothy naturally spread into those areas - other than via seed?

I gather Timothy can be competitive. Is this via shading out the neighboring plant or somehow growing into it's space and crowding it out?

Just curious.
