Non clog

Has anyone ever put stub guards on a sickle mower? I bought a jd 39 as a back up mower this year, and I haven't had many clogging problems until I got in my Reed canary grass. It was a bit damp underneith and lodged. I managed to get it cut ok but the guards on this mower are shot and I'm looking to put something on that's a little better. I currently have the standard double guard that would be used on early jd swathers.
