We have a refractometer that is used to check sugars in beer and wine grapes. We began testing our sudan/sorghum (Super Sugar). The scale is brix and we got readings as high as 19 when the plant is just heading out, boot stage was lower, around 12-13 cut regrowth is under 10. Trying to develop an organized plan/timing as the first cuttings are all baleage for our herd. It is obvious the higher the number the more sugar, our Malbec grapes go around 22. Just trying to figure how to maximize our hay quality. I know you dairy guys know how!
