Square bale shape

While baling some real nice 1st cut yesterday with my old New Holland baler, I got some good news and bad news. Bad news was that I believe I had a bearing seize up on my bale thrower rendering it inoperable (upper belt roller stopped turning) therefore we went old school by disabling the thrower and hand stacking on the wagon. The good news was that the bale shape was really nice. I was baling good hay in big windrows so that may have had something to do with it, however my baler does not make a great bale usually. They are not super solid and of course get beat up a little being thrown in to the wagon. If I really tighten up the tension to make a bale more solid, I start sporadically missing knots on one side. Any suggestions for improving bale shape once I get the thrower back operating? I do have I believe 2 sets of bale wedges in the chamber, and I can install one more set if necessary.
