Reconditioning alfalfa

I am tossing around the idea of getting a reconditioner. I am in southern MN so we get some humidity during the summer. Will reconditioning speed up my dry time much? I cut with a 14' 1600 mower conditioner.

 

Also, will an old pull type conditioner handle an alfalfa windrow from a 14' cutter? Neighbor has one I can pick up cheap. I would pull the rubber off the rolls and weld steel bars on. Or am I better off with something like a recon 300? Either way I would put some sort of spreading attachment on.
