Harvesting teff -- what works best?

Making a new teff topic.

I've got a small 2 ac patch with tiffany teff ready to cut next week. Planted badly with low quality broadcast so some areas thin and weedy others are very thick.

I've got a jd mower conditioner, Tedder hay rake and baler. Will be small squares for horses.

I plan to cut in early am to keep sugar content down. What's the method for harvesting a dry crop? I'm in mid michigan, normal 1st cutting of mixed grass in late June takes 3 or 4 days.
