Hello there!
We bought a 30+ acre farm in SW Virginia in December of 2017. The 12+ acres of fields were used to grow corn and soy in succession. We cleaned up the fields and drilled in orchard/fescue mix in April of this year (it was a very wet beginning of spring!). The grass is actually doing great these days, I think the stand is getting established nicely.
However, I noticed two grasses in it: fall panicum and goosegrass. The orchard/fescue mix we planted was for our horses and hopefully to sell some leftovers (we only have two horses). However, fall panicum can be extremely liver toxic to horses - someone here just lost two animals to it being in the hay.
Has anyone here run across these? If so, how do you fight them?
Thanks!
Fall panicum and goosegrass
