August 15th - September 1st is a good time to mow pastures and CRP ground to control woody plants like multifloral rose, blackberries, brush, etc.
These plants tend to go from limb growth to storing sugars in the root system for next year. Mowing them now inhibits that storage mechanism so they cannot regrow next spring.
