Legume nitrogen credit and forages

samedi 30 avril 2016

I raise spring and summer forages.  I have often debated adding legumes into my rotations for soil improvement and nitrogen credit to following crops.  I get many mixed answers when it comes down to how this works.  For example, in a mix of oats and peas, will the peas produce any nitrogen that the oats could use?  Or will the nitrogen only be available to the following crop after the peas are killed?  I have ways to utilize legumes such as peas and vetch, just not sure what to expect.  Hopefully someone can explain the system better.

3630 Spra-Coupe

My uncle bought a 3630 Spra-Coupe a couple of weeks ago that is equipped with a Raven 440 flow control. The coupe had been sitting for a couple of years and I have been going thru it front to back in an attempt to get it operational.
I know nothing about sprayers, but am a fair hand with wrenches, fluke meters, anything mechanical and most things electrical.
I have not taken the (main) flow control valve apart nor the turbine yet as they MAY not need attention. The Raven unit in the cab has a sticky button that needs attention prior to getting to work on the valves/turbine, so running it in self-test mode is not an option at this time.
The boom flow control valves work (now) and I can make the sprayer work while stationary, but don’t know if it should?  So, the question is: is the flow control normally open, normally closed, or what? With the Raven set for 10 GPA, and unable to enter self-test to “fool” it into thinking it is moving at any particular speed, should it be spraying fluid? The Raven thinks it is stationary, so should it be allowing fluid to pass?
The flow meter appears to be working, but I don’t know about the valve yet.

Round Baler

Well we are adding a round baler to our list of stuff. currently use a new holland 315 square baler but want to do some small rounds for cattle. It will be dry hay. Currently looking at a vermeer 5410 rebel and a heston 730. Not much around in the smaller end of things around me right now. Which would be better? Told the Vermeer needs a grease fitting on drive shaft and the Heston is field ready. Thanks

getting started

vendredi 29 avril 2016

hey yall, I'm new to the site.  I have a pretty extensive history in farming growing up on small central kentucky cattle farm.  Me and my pawpaw baled our own hay and raised corn.  I'm little older now, 39, been away from farming due to career etc.  recently purchased 200 acres, have about 80 tillable plus my pawpaw's farm, 40 tillable and would like to try to start raising alfalfa for sale.  The market around here is great for hay.  I know the basics but would like to research more into the up to date current ways at going at it, relating to seeding (no till vs. till and broadcast), fertilizer regimes etc.  Other than local extension agent and neighbors can yall suggest some very good resources online?  thanks

New Holland swather 8060

I just purchased an h8060 new holland swather machine i cant figure out the down button. The up and side level buttons work great but when you go to let it down the down button drops it as fast as it can and makes it hit the ground hard how do i adjust that speed of letting it down. Thanks

Baron/Bandit hauling, stacking, storing bundles

We will be running the baron for the first time this year. Intrested to hear from the bandit guys as well, I know there is a lot of experience out there on that machine.

First off coming out of the field. We will have 4 prong bale spear at the barn and was wondering how well pallet forks would work in the field. Figure we will be picking them up one at a time. Will pallet forks tend to break strings?

How are guys stacking on flatbed trailers when hauling out of the field ? Was thinking of stacking how they come out the Baron just to be quick, but flipping them might be a more stable stack with a bigger footprint and not require strapping, and can fit a few more bundles making a bigger jag. Back at the barn half the bundles will be flipped and half upright in storage if that matters.

Also heard if you stack too many bundles flipped on the side in the barn they can really flatten the bottom bundle. How high can you go without an issue. Hay or straw make a difference in that situation? Was wanting to go 4 high with straw flipped on its side in a 13' building if it's possible.

How difficult is it when starting piles outside for tarping. Can you make a nice square stack or do you have to stair step the stack in order for it to be a stable stack.

Sorry a lot of questions. Have a lot of experience handling big squares but this could be a totally different experience

Got myself an old baler to play with

Well, I finally found what I thought was a decent deal on an old baler. Paid $150 a IH 46 from a local guy, was barn kept it's whole life until two years ago, where it was under a tree. It hasn't been used in about ten years, but was used and well kept before it was parked. Everything is there, everything moves, but it needs some work.

I plan to replace the chains, belt, some springs, grease everything and check the timing prior to hooking it up to PTO. The pickup teeth should be replaced, and I need to spend some time cleaning things up/lubing. Otherwise, I think it'll be a decent baler. Dogs are in good shape, needles look great, knotter assemblies look in tact and fairly clean, and there is no bad rust anywhere on it. I have the operators manual on the way, so I look forward to that read.

It's not pretty, but pressure washers and paint do amazing things! I'll be bringing it home this tomorrow, and can't wait to dive in. Worse case; it'll be a great introduction to balers for me, and I'll hopefully get some good life out of it.

Hope all are well here. On my RTV900, I replaced the rear original lights with some nice led's. I added a turn signal switch and flasher as well. The lights all work but are very, very dim. Put a volt meter on them and only getting 10.5 volts. Connections and ground look good. Any suggestions?? Thx.

Is alfalfa/hay a good way to pay off land?

I am in the process of moving to Idaho. I see a lot of pivot water systems and alfalfa growing all around. I expect people are doing it because it makes money. I am planning to buy land after I fix up the house I just purchased. My question is on the economics of growing alfalfa to pay back the expense of the land. First off I plan to pay cash for the land, how much I get is another matter. I hope to negotiate my way into ten to twenty acres with proven water and good sun exposure.

I have not planned out expenses for a pivot watering system. It looks like everyone has one of these. I would expect you would need a way to cut the alfalfa, a way to bail it, and store it for sale.

How much currency will I need to get a start at this excluding land? Through my research I have also found different levels of quality of alfalfa. I expect that has to do with the soil, preparation, and weather. I have so many questions but I will just end here for now and see what comes from this exploration post.

My ultimate goal is to pay back my investment in land and equipment, then start a permaculture design on the land with aggro forestry , bushes, and shrubs, animals and strip grazing.

New Holland grooved flywheel

Does New Holland have a grooved flywheel?  Running my Farmhand accumulator on my JD 336 but just acquired other Farmhand accumulator and was going to hook to a New Holland 310 baler but not sure belts will stay on the flywheel since no groves for them to ride in.

NH high stubble shoes

Just wondering if the high stubble shoes go on just the outside edges two of them or do you use them on every pod? How long does it take to go from high stubble to normal shoes? Reason I ask thought about trying them on my orchard grass, but will need take them off when I'm doing alfalfa.

Hayfield succession on limestone valley soils

For those of you in the middle eastern states, NC, Ky,Tn Va, Md and Pa on limestone valley soils-Just wondering if any of you have witnessed this hayfield plant succession-

You plant timothy or orchard grass from scratch no till on ground burned with roundup.

A little slow the first year getting started, then a good year or two of whatever was planted.  Then-

The fescue clumps appear, the annual bluegrass starts to fill in everywhere and the little barley appears.

This occurs in fields that start with high plant populations, have good soil pH, and are well fertilized based on annual soil tests.  I am only in my second and third year of higher cutting heights and will start a new set of og fields with high stubble shoes on my discbine that were just installed.  Any thoughts?  I am about ready to stop overseeding fields in attempts to prolong stands and automatically re-establish every 4-5 years with a complete burndown after first cutting and seeding in late august in criscross at high seeding rates, followed by winter annual herbicide control that October.  rick

M&W parts

I have seen many threads on here about the m&w balers and some of their issues. I am absolutely in love with my m&w, but it's all I have ever used since I was a kid. Also it works great for our application. My concern is that I am struggling finding parts for my 4590. I can find the usual wear and tear parts, but I am in search of the rubber-coated net wrap roller. My father upgraded our farm from a 1987 m&w 1500 (which I must add still operates perfectly) to the 4590 only because of the net wrap capability. Only issue is all of the rubber coating has fallen off of the roller. Any advise (other than get rid of my M&W) would be greatly appreciated!

Belt cut

Had a good day yesterday got all the critical up we had laying. Well almost good found out I had a belt on the BR7060 that has a huge cut in it, the belts and will need ruined and will need to be replaced. It is a silage special with endless belts I am just thinking about putting a spliced belt in and was wondering if anyone has ever done that. We bale a lot of wet forage and I know that can be trying on belts. I guess the question is what would I do then as the other belts go bad but I just add more spice belts. The belts have 6000 bales on them I think I will soon need to replace them anyway they're starting to show signs of wear did anyone ever replace endless belts on a New Holland? Did anyone ever run a mix of spliced and endless?

ABI Manure Spreader, or other

I'm looking at new manure spreaders. The IH 515 I rebuilt I sold as I wasn't impressed with its spread pattern. My New Idea 217 is just plum wore out, and the New Holland 305 sideslinger I bought last fall to get me by isn't really cutting it.

I do everything from haypack to compost to sloppy hen manure. ABI spreaders look nice, I prefer to support a small company if they build a nice rig. Anyone own one, used one, seen one? Any other manufacturer I should look at?

I'm not sure I'll stay with a sideslinger as it doesn't do well with haypack. I thought I was done with drag chain spreaders, but I'm rethinking that.

Input appreciated.

Plasma Cutter

Plasma Cutters have dropped considerably in price so that I'm thinking of springing for one. Shopping Amazon and seeing Lotos LTP5000D for $335. This runs on 110 or 220 which seems to be an advantage but ....not sure if I'd need that option.

My first planned use would be for fabricating, creating a frame to hold bucket seats in the bed of my RTV.

Here is a list of them on amazon: http://ift.tt/1QE07If

Any tidbits or advice for newbie with the urge to pick up another toy?
So many of these are over $1000, do the cheaper versions do okay for general purpose cutting?

8575 Case IH = which Hesston?

What did Hesston call their equivalent of the IH 8575?  Thanks.

Also when I go to Tractorhouse to look for 3x3 balers there are dozens of model numbers that come up.  Every thing from small square to 4x4.  You really need to know what model number to look for to do a search.  Wish I could just search for 3x3 balers on there.

Could someone help me out a bit and list make and models of 3x3 square balers that come to mind so I can search a little easier on Tractorhouse?  Many Thanks!

What Oil to use

I need to add hydraulic transmission oil to my CaseIH 8840 swather.  The dilemma is what oil to use.   Do I use the Hy-Gard, CaseIH Hy-tran, or the Napa hydraulic transmission oil.  The previous owner used the Hy-Gard, although he told me that the case dealer did some work on the machine, but he never told me wither all of the oil was replaced with the Case oil.  We have been using the Napa oil in our tractors with no issues. What oil should I go with; I am thinking of going with the JD oil.  Just  because that is what he previous owner used.  The Napa oil is about $45, JD oil $75, and the Case oil $85 per five gallons.

What say you.

2008 GMD 600Gii disc mower manual

For several years now, my husband and I have found some great tips and information on these forums. I have finally joined and am hoping someone can help. We have just purchased a slighlty used, one owner (100 acres in 8yrs) Kuhn GMD 600 Gii disc mower. I am having a hard time finding an operators manual and parts diagrams. Our previous cutter was a NH 462. And while they are similar a lot of changes happened in the twenty year age difference. We use a Massey 265 tractor for our hay and I want to make sure I hook it up properly. I also want to make sure I do the proper start up maintenance on it.

I've looked online and have had no luck in my usual go to sites for manuals. Any ideas?

Water in NH Discbine Hubs

Did my annual spring maintenance on the hay equipment the other day.  Since it is an even year, changed all the gear oil.  The outside hub on my 1409 had about a teaspoon of free water and discolored gear oil, and the next one in had discolored gear oil.  the rest of the modules were fine.  Anyone experience that situation and if so, what did you do to correct it?  Most of the year the discbine is in a shed but during hay season it is outside as I use the shed for propping wagon loads of hay.  I wash off my discbine after each use with a hose, not a pressure washer.  Any ideas?  Thanks, rick

For the Humid East alfalfa/hay exports are slim compared to California, Oregon, & Washington.

Almost nonexistent.

My opinion as small it is this export market gives a release for the West coast and probably helps support the price of hay East of 95W.
A few years ago I knew a Idaho alfalfa grower who shipped containers of alfalfa to the East Coast, all the way to Florida.

Any ideas why?

JD vs MF/Hesston disc mower conditioners

I'm sure everyone is getting tired of me asking questions about mower conditioners but here we go anyway. The offer I made on the NH 499 was turned down and I have decided not to buy it for what they want. I think I have tentatively decided to buy a disc mower conditioner instead of a sickle.

I have narrowed my choices down to a MF/Hesston 1383 or a JD 946. I wanted to see what everyone's thoughts are on these two machines and which might be the better machine. Dealer support isn't a concern either way.....durability of the machine and most importantly quality of the cut will be my deciding factor. Either way I go I'm going to add Circle C rolls.

Mentioned a while ago that I was thinking of buying a wheel rake, asked for some opinions;

Have been looking at the N.H. 819 Pro Cart it makes a wide enough vee for our needs, but trying to figure out if we need the 'center kicker wheel' option. It's an extra $1,250.00

Will probably use this rake on tedded hay, to make nice windrows for baling.

Any opinions? Do I need the center wheel?

Haybuster 107C no-till drill

I rented a Haybuster 107C no-till dril from my local USDA Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) to over-seed a pasture lot with rye grass. The manual indicates that you can seed perennial rye grass from the legume box. However the rye grass "bridged" in about 65% of the seed tubes. I looked at using the grain box..which is used for "fluffy" grass seed, grain and believe it or not, millet... but decided not to.   I digress... anyone have any experience with the Haybuster 107C drill?  I called up the SWCD and told them to take it to the next farmer on the list after trying it for a few a few hours.. I just couldn't get the rye to flow through all the tubes.... it seemed like it was the same tubes that plugged up. I asked the SWCD folks that picked it up if anyone else had complained.. after some prodding they admitted that at least on two occasions a farmer had complained of the seed bridging in the clear supply tubes under the legume box.  I took one of the offending tubes off and checked it out. It seemed that some fine material.. yellow substance..  .perhaps from treated seed had adhered to the sides of the clear plastic tube..causing a drag?? As i don't use treated seed (I'm organic) I'm just guessing.

I have had seed bridging before on my grain drill's  legume feeder tubes... but a shot of compressed air at the beginning of the season clears that up quite fast... gets the cobwebs out. The 107c tubes appear clear of cobwebs and other foreign material except for the residue.

thanks

Adding to the Flock

I know for many of you out west increasing a flock size by 150 sheep is not a lot, but here in New England it is. I am running into the issue of finding a ranch willing to sell 150 breeding stock ewes. I tried a few ranches that had 3000 plus sheep or so, but so far all I can get is 30 or so sheep. My standards are low as I am a commercial flock, but I hoped to make a single run out west and grab as many ewes as I could in one stop instead of making a 7 ranch stops for the same number of sheep.

I have not had much luck with Suffolk unfortunately, but I don't need anything registered of course, 1-6 years old...as I said, rather low standards.

Anyone have some ideas on how to find a ranch willing to sell some sheep?

What's a fair price on a Gehl 2360 Discbine

Neighbor has a Gehl 2360 discbine for sale that I'm considering buying just to get some experience with a disc mower.  Currently mowing with a New Holland sickle bar haybine, and would like to pick up some speed to reduce cutting time and lay a wider, thinner crop swath.  Mechanically the machine seems solid.  Tin is pretty straight, but it was weathered and they did a brush paint job on it, which looks great from 25 feet away :-).  Thoughts on a fair offer for the both of us?

If there are good reasons to steer clear, I'd be happy to hear those as well.  But my thought process is to get into a cheaper discbine to try it out, and keep the sickle bar New Holland as well for now, then maybe later move both for a new discbine.

Disc mower conditioners cutting clean at slower speeds

dimanche 24 avril 2016

The offer I made on a NH 499 was turned down and I'm not sure I want to spend much more than I offered. I have been thinking that if I could get a decent trade in on a piece of equipment I have been trying to sell I might just be interested in buying a new disc mower conditioner. I would be buying a machine with rollers since I grow a variety of different crops.

My concern that I have with a disc mower conditioner is getting a clean cut in lighter crops.....especially at slower cutting speeds. Most of my fields I can run 6-8mph but there are a few hillsides that I have to go slower on to keep from being pushed around and possible ending up sliding into the woods. I have heard that in lighter crops the faster you cut with a disc machine the cleaner it will cut but on my hillsides this isn't an option. Will this be a problem getting a clean cut in light crops?

I'm growing more and more alfalfa every year and later cuttings are many times short and thin from summer drought so getting a clean cut in alfalfa is very important.

RTV Daily uses, What did you do today with your RTV?

I finally got my RTV back from the dealer. While there fixing the linkage that slipped out of sync, I had a few other things done that by themselves were not worthy of a trip to the dealer. Left melted headlight fixed, fuel gauge replaced (it had been intermittent but turns out it was the gauge, no labor for replacing). I also had tubes put in the rear tires and I got the hand throttle yall had been talking about. Awesome.

So today I used the tractor FEL to load gravel in the RTV and ran the loads down to problem spots in my trails. Road maintenance I call it but actually is it trail maintenance. So much better to climb hills in M with the hand throttle than to chug along in L. Wish I had moved on this item a few years ago instead of procrastinating like I did.

Then I used it for it's weekly duty of hauling the trash up to the road for pick up tomorrow. Such a nice day, I'm wore out. Not ready for Monday workday tomorrow but somehow I'll survive.

Head scab

We grow a lot of Wheat and barley the strong markets have been good to us through the years. Grain Quality has become so important over the years and it is important to prevent head scab and vomitoxin. Prevention is best not planting in corn stalks and getting a variety that is less susceptible. Does anyone have a choice fungicide Pasaro or caramba Etc? How do you time application because here the time is close.

Farm King / Rossi Hay Tedders?

I have considered looking at these About $2,000 cheaper than Kuhn and also looked at the Bush Hog tedders which I thought looked light built. The Rossi looks heavy built in pictures but not went to look in person yet. At most I may do a hundred acres a year. Just wondered if anyone had been around these.

Haybob 360

I recently obtained an old PZ Haybob 360 with a couple of parts missing. I have managed to make the deflectors but was wondering if anyone can help me with measurements for the swath curtain arm and assembly. They don't sell the 360 in South Africa at the moment so I can't measure one up for myself. My machine is a Zweegers which then became a Vicon and is now taken over by Kuhn. Thanks in advance. Setting NH discbine rollers correctly

Question for you guys running NH discbines with rollers. Been a long time since I have run a roller machine and I honestly can't remember how we set the old 411 discbine and 489 haybines compared to the newer models.

Just traded on a new H7230 and finally got around to looking it over the other day. Seems like the roll gap was set really far apart and not the same distance on both sides - 1/2" on one end and 1/4" on the other. The manual says they should be between 1/64" and a max of 1/8". So this is what I adjusted them down to.

But was talking with the dealer today and was told that was way too close and I should keep them at a minimum of 1/4" for grass hay (I mainly have grass hay). So which is right, the dealer or the manual?

Also, it seems to me like the roll timing is slightly off because the book says the ridge of one roll should be pretty much in the middle of the valley of the other roller. On mine it is offset - not quite touching on the one side but close (see attached pics). I asked the dealer about this and was told this was no issue and didn't need to be adjusted. What do you all think?

Cow Catching and off to market

So it is Tues and nice and dry. Perfect to get my truck and trailer through the pasture without rutting it up, and load the old cow up for a trip to the butcher. Me and the wife start about 1330 and remain calm as we try to lure her to the trailer with her daily serving of grain. Granted, this cow has always been sketchy, but that doesnt mean she cant be lured with grain right?

So, after shaking the scoop, banging the bucket, letting the cows through the fence take interest, and by default gaining her interest, I couldnt get her any closer than 15 feet from the open end of the trailer. With rain due in the next 24 hrs, and a date with the butcher scheduled, I had to get her loaded. I am a patient man, but time really is of the essence. So now its 1800 and I still have an hours worth of chores to do let alone eat dinner, I resort to the interweb to an ad I had read, really my only last resort. Cow Catching

I live in Southern Illinois now. But I have lived the last 22 yrs in the mountain west surounded by cattlemen and cowboys. In SI, its usually just factory farms and little guys with a few head of livestock. This isnt Cheyenne Wy., North Platte Ne., or Mesquite Nv., where horesmanship is a common theme. So I call this number. The guy tells me him and his buddy catch cows that bust fences, or turn feral, or in any way refuse to be handled, they handle them. I say, I have a job for them. He says he will need to get his truck and trailer into my pasture but other than that, he will get the old girl into my trailer.

Now we didnt think to get a camera out till the show is almost over, and actual shots of the trailer to trailer transfer didnt happen because that is exactly when the downpour started. But you can see in the pics, it is less than 5 min out. She was pretty sketchy still, but they worked well and did their job without crashing my fence, which was my biggest fear other than losing her to the wild or letting her grow old and die in my pasture.

One roped her neck, while the other caught an ankle. She fought at first until she saw it was pointless, then they led her to the trailer. The ankle man dismounted and lossed is rope, then ran to the truck for a prod. When he returned the mounted man with the neck rope worked his rope over the top of the trailer. When the timing was right, he started pulling her. But being hard headed, she wasnt going anywhere. Then Mr. Cattle prod steps up to give her a little nudge. I watched him do this 3-4 times and she never flinched. Then he did exactly what I or anyone of us would do. He laid it on her inner thigh and didnt move it. About 5 seconds later she found the energy to take the last 2 steps into the trailer. Thats the last pic where you see him behind her.

Now on Tues my wife was a little pissed at me for calling the guys out here. But after watching them, and how the cow fought, we agreed this was the best 250 bucks we ever spent. I know alot about alot of things, just not enough to do the entire job myself. There is no way in gods green earth I could have done what they did and wonder just what in the hell would I have done if these guys wouldnt have taken the time to learn a trade like this out here in Southern Illinois. I got spoiled up there in Utah where I could just call for a kill truck to come to my farm and shoot and skin my cow/hogs and deliver them to the butcher for me. Southern Illinois doesnt have them at all, and most butchers are even enamored by the idea of even their existence. By the way, I followed the guys out of the pasture in the rain and it rained 2.5 inches Tues night. I dropped her off yesterday at the butchers place. When I got home, it started raining again, and rained another 2.5 inches. It would be another 2 weeks before I could get wheeled vehicles out there without sinking up to the axles. They came withing 24hrs of my call.

Thank God for the Horsemen and the American way of life.

Finding Hay preservative nightmare!

Spraying acid seems to be the most common and easiest product to get. Looked into Silo Guard, Hay Guard, and also First Response.
Liked the Idea of First Response and Hay Guard as it uses one spray rate with moisture ranging.

All the listed products are not easily obtained in my area.
It is like pulling teeth trying to get set up with a system.

Harvest Tech has systems that seem to be bolt on per balers. When called there tech line always got straight answers. Just don’t really want to spray cropsaver acid type product. Because don’t want the smell associated with it. Horse foke will know and turn their nose up.

Looks like at this point I’m going to be forced into ordering Harvest Tech system. Using acid unless someone can give me solid advice as to overcome the hurdles.

First response seems to be made from Nurturite but no # to call just force you into email contact only. So the support is not there and the wed site is limited info on it.
Hay Guard has no representatives in Wisconsin. Called there listed local distributors and they don’t know anything about the products.

Quack grass

This field is ready to seed OG but has a lot of quack grass cut up in it.
Planning to round up it first than seed OG.
There are a lot of stems not sprouted yet.
Will the OG compete well with the quack grass?
If I end up with a mix, is that so bad?
Kinda in a hurry as usual but could move on to other things and come back to this later if I have to.

Need help with MoCo sickle

Let me start out by saying I am only 31 and dont have any experience with sickles. I have watched hay be cut with drum and disc mowers pretty much all my farming days.

I recently bought a hesston 1070 mower conditioner. I have been going through it and all the bearing seem to be good and I have been able to get the conditioning rolls properly adjusted.

Problem I am having is with the sickle. The sections are tight against the guards right in middle but about 6 guards one each end have almost a 1/8" gap between the sickle and guards. It is equipped with stub guards.

I would really like to get some acres on the machine to make sure its worth really putting the money into completely rebuilding the sickle.

Self leveling loaders

jeudi 21 avril 2016

The JD 6420 I'm looking at buying comes with a JD 673 self leveling loader. I have never used a self leveling loader and am concerned I won't like it. I don't like the reduced visibility from the cab with the extra frame rail and the extra wear/maintenance points. I can kind of see the benefit of a self leveling loader for scooping material but I don't use a loader for that........almost all I use a loader for is to load bandit bundles out of the field. How will a self leveling loader work for that application?

Just getting started

So this next coming season I have roughly 55 acres I'm going to be growing hay on. The reason I am waiting till next year is due to the fact my equipment list is quite small right now. My main question right now is more of a this or that kind of deal. So one thing I'm looking at right now is a massey Ferguson 420 and a mf pt 10. The 420 is one that an old farmer is willing to sell me, good looking, running machine and the only thing I know of that is wrong with it is the speed select is froze up, so it's top speed is about 2.5 or 3mph witch is no big deal because it comes with a trailer. Does anyone have any experience with one of these that could tell me the pros and cons of it? The pt 10 is at a local auction I don't know much about the mechanic but I know it's the later model version. My next question is on a tractor, as of right now I have a 1954 massey Harris 44 special. The only issue I have with it is the pro placement but I already have a baler adapted to work with it. I have the chance to buy a massey Ferguson 65 from the same guy with the 420 but the tractor has 20xxx hours on it. (Has been used as a pump tractor for years) so my question is should I go for the 65 or just see if the old gasser will do what I ask of it.
Thanks for reading!

Covering seed timing?

lundi 18 avril 2016

16.9-38 vs 18.4-34 tires

I'm looking at buying JD 6420 4wd with loader. My only concern with the tractor is that it has 16.9-38 rear tires instead of the 18.4-34s that you see on most 6420s. The neighbors 6420 which I have been using for the past year has 18.4-34s which seem to be a nice size for that tractor. I'm worried that I might not like the slightly taller but narrower 16.9-38s.....especially for loader work. Moving bandit bundles out of the field will be the main job for this tractor but will also likely mow and/or rake. When it's not in the hayfield the tractor will likely be used to pull a notill drill some and do odd and end jobs. Will the 16.9-38s okay for these uses? Will I have less traction?

Building a 3 car garage pictorial

I like building garages. I usually set one up to build each winter or spring. This one got started late. Mid March.
First picture is the site before I started.
Next is footings. Part of the job is to also take the existing 2 car attached garage and make it into living space. Incredibly, the existing garage slab had no footing or block wall under the front of the slab. So we dug a footing to support the old slab and new exterior wall replacing the old garage door. More to come

Digital Wireless Camera on Small Square Baler

I am thinking about putting a wireless camera on the back of my Sperry New Holland 326 small square baler to monitor the bale movement onto the Hoelscher 1000 accumulator and to watch the action of the accumulator. Presently, the baler blocks my view of the bales going onto the throw arm of the accumulator. So, if a bale is mis-tied I can't see it. If the two-bale throw arm fails to come back down after pitching two bales onto the trailer, I have difficulty seeing this from the tractor unless I stand up. Sometimes, and I may be baling too fast, the push bale gets in the way of the arm before it can come down after pitching two bales onto the trailer and this creates a "stop and clean up a mess" situation.

Does anyone use a baler mounted camera with an in-cab mounted monitor to watch the action behind the baler? What are your recommendations regarding this idea?

Hay wagon Pintle hitch idea, need opinions

Hey everyone, as most of you know I run a accumulator grapple set up. I was thinking this year of taking one of my hay wagons and cutting off the pin portion and Welding on a Lunette ring to be used with a pintle hitch. Then I would use the pintle hitch on my tractor 3 point hitch arms and be able to pick up the wagon tongue in the field. I was thinking of using some sort of chain and suspending the wagon hitch roughly 1 foot off the ground so I could back up to it and just left my three point hitch arms and go off to the barn to drop it and then be able to unload. Do you guys think that this idea would work? Or has anyone done this before? I cannot justify the $500 for the quick hitch systems. I am counting on the weight of the tongue to keep the Lunette ringover the 2" ball.

Deer and Dove Plots Beside Hayfields?????

The acreage I cut for hay is family property.  I'm the hay guy, my brother is into timber and hunting camp activities, trails, tree stands and food plots for deer and doves.

This year, he is going to plant some of these next to my hay fields and maybe one in the middle of a field.

To keep the peace - I'm fine with it, but have some concerns.

I read somewhere that foxtail is an excellent dove forage plant.  Really don't want that stuff in or next to my hay fields.

Other potential plot plants are Carolina Geranium, Fall Panicum, Milo, Millet, Sunflowers and Buckwheat.

Of these varieties - do any cause you concern if they were in or near your hay field?

Millet kind of sounded interesting to me - I read about Millet hay frequently, but in my brother's case, I'm sure he's interested in it going to seed.  Not sure of any hay potential????

We are going to meet and discuss these food plots - any seeding recommendations that would square with timothy or orchard grass or alfalfa or teff grass hay pure stands?

Perhaps there is a plot seed variety that would be beneficial to both of us.

Any advice/recommendations are much appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill

What is a fella am 165x worth

I inquired about a fella sm 165x disc mower and didn't care for the answer. It sat in a barn for about 10 years without use and was sold to a hardware store and now the hardware store is selling it. They're asking $3800 for the disc mower and $1800 for a 6' Ford sickle mower and both these numbers just sound way off to me.

First off, the sickle mower is in some pretty rough shape. I told them I thought the sickle is about a 400 to 500 dollar machine on a good day to the right buyer.

Then there's the disc mower. It's a 1.65 meter machine which equals about 5 1/2 ft. Then there's no dealer support to help with things that will have to be replaced because the mower sat untouched for 10 years. I told them I thought due to the size, no dealer support, and sitting that this mower was probably a $1000 to $1200 mower. They didn't like my response to either piece. Am I missing something? Or are they looking for high dollar price for low dollar equipment?

Plant Nutrient Removal by Crops

dimanche 17 avril 2016

In a Thread (that has gone somewhat off course) titled Fertilizer Choices, Coastal bermuda... there were various amounts of potassium reported as being removed by Coastal bermudagrass.

The discussion was on the amount of potassium that is taken up by Coastal bermudagrass on a per ton basis. Apparently, there is some confusion when crossing state lines, on the recommended amounts of potassium that need to be applied to compensate for this plant uptake based on statements in that Thread. Here is an attempt to clear up this confusion.

All plants take up potassium as K+, not as K2O represented by the third number on the fertilizer bag or in the fertilizer blend. When a plant analysis is done, the result for potassium is reported and percent K, not K2O. When a soil test is done, potassium considered as plant available by extraction is reported as parts per million K or even as pounds per acre and the fertilizer recommendation for potassium is given as pounds of K2O to apply per acre. The potash in the fertilizer (0-0-60) is not even K2O but is KCl, or potassium chloride, referred to as muriate of potash. Sometimes the potassium is supplied as potassium sulfate (K2SO4), or even as potassium nitrate (KNO3) but rarely.

According to Kelling and Matocha, (1990, in Soil Testing and Plant Analysis, 3rd Edition, edited by R. L. Westerman, a Soil Science Society of America Publication), 1.8% K in Coastal bermudagrass is the upper end of adequate and 2.2% K is listed as high. Using an average between these two values, or 2.0% K in a ton of Coastal bermudagrass on a dry matter basis amounts to plant uptake of 40 lb of K. If we want to replace this amount of potassium by fertilizing the soil, we need to apply 48 lb of K2O per ton of Coastal bermudagrass dry matter removed as hay, because there is only 83% K in K2O. This fits very closely with the 48 pounds of K2O per ton indicated by the old Potash/Phosphate Institute (Now IPNI, or International Plant Nutrition Institute) as taken up by bermudagrass.

So if two tons of 15% moisture Coastal bermudagrass hay is removed per acre, about 85 pounds of K2O per acre (rounded up from 83.4 lbs) would need to be applied as fertilizer to replace the potassium removed by the Coastal bermudagrass hay. On a dry matter basis, two tons of Coastal bermudagrass removes 96 pounds of K2O. This is very close to the current amount of K2O reported by IPNI (50 lb/ton) as being removed from the soil by Coastal bermudagrass, or 41.5 lb of K.

(If you are interested in the chemistry, the formula weight of K is 39.1 grams per mole. Two moles of K in K2O become 78.2 plus the molecular weight of Oxygen is 16, or a total molecular weight of 94.2 for K2O. The weight of K in K2O, 78.2 divided by the molecular weight of K2O is 0.83, or 83% K in K2O.)

(Why is the letter K used to represent potassium when there is no letter 'K' in potassium? The origin of the symbol K used for potassium comes from kalium, the Latin name for potassium. And word potassium is derived from potash.)

For your information, IPNI provides plant nutrient removal data for many crops on their web site at:

Since I think I have decided to go with a sickle mower conditioner instead of a disc I got to wondering if there were any good self propelled windrowers that I could afford with a sickle header. Was looking on tractorhouse and there were some pretty good looking NH 2550s and Hesston 8450s in my price range. The problem is they had a 16 foot header on them and there is no way I get get down the road with a header that wide. Tips for the first time hay farmer

Well spring is here and my hay field is coming up. I have a couple questions. First I'll tell you that there was existing grass in the field, no idea what it was, so I baled up what was there and plowed and harrigated it out. I don't have any equipment yet and I'm running on renting and favors. So with limited equipment I was given advice that just broadcasting the seed out with fertilizer pellets would work to get me going. I decided to plant a timothy alfalfa mix for the horses I board. It ended up being early September when I planted. So there is the info sorry for the muddled nature of it.

Now in Spring i have about 50/50 growing to bald spots and a lot of what I can tell is purple deadnettle coming up. I guess my question is will my hay field fill out on its own over a couple of years or does some action need to be taken to help the grass take over.

Any ideas, thanks in advance.

Title?

samedi 16 avril 2016

Did you get a title when you bought your Kubota RTV? I bought my RTV used with around 20 hours and the seller said they didn't get a title when they bought the RTV. The seller said, since it was considered a piece of farm machinery it didn't come with a title at least that is what the Kubota dealer told him. I thought I might want to check on this, since if I ever try to sell later on down the road it might be an issue with another buyer. I did get a detailed invoice when I purchased used. I know when I bought an ATV I always received a title for the machine.

KIOTI CK30 won't start

my tractor switch was hit turning the tractor off while wide open and would not start. turned fuel filter switch to air and still didn't start. bled the line at the bleeder bolt at injector pump and no go. did this procedure many times and didn't work. let it set overnight and repeated and still wouldn't crank. waited a week for a mechanic to come and he checked fuses and solenoid and all was ok. he then switched lever to air and opened and closed the bleeder bolt just like i had and it cranked on second time. since then i idol it down and shut off and runs great however sometimes after running a few min. or a long time it would not start but i would put it on air and open bleeder bolt and would start right up. Today i had used the tractor several hours, eat lunch and then cranked it up. then right away someone came to talk and i cut it off and now its just like the first timed i bleed and it won,t crank. any ideas???

Harvextra

Anyone else plant any? I drilled in 60 acres of it today. Would like to hear from others who decided to try some as well. I don't plan to increase my cut interval, but hope to see better digestibilty with a normal cutting schedule.

My turn to try Teff.

So there have been several different people on here who have tried Teff and I guess it's now my turn.  I'll try to remember to update this thread as I go along this summer so the next person who wants to give Teff a try won't have to search around as much.

Anyway, I have a 5 acre field that is coming out of silage corn last year and will be going back into timothy in the fall (it was RR corn, so I know there isn't a herbicide issue).  My plan is to put teff on it this spring and try and get two cuttings.  After the second cutting, I'll plow it under and fall seed the timothy in.  I'm hoping that this will allow me to not lose a year of production on the field and still fall seed the timothy I normally grow.  I want to have the teff in by mid-May so I can take the first cutting in mid to late June and the second in late July or early August.  Depending on how spring goes, I may be able to get it planted sooner than that, but we'll see.

Does this seem like it would work?  Any suggestions on doing something a little different?

Some other questions I have...

Fertilizer:  I took a soil sample of the field today and will be dropping it off tomorrow to have it sent for testing.  I'm expecting a week or so before I get results.  From what I've read, I don't really want to put any nitrogen on, but is there anything else I should look for?  I'll post the soil test results as soon as I have them.

Seeding:  I'm planning on using seed from my local dealer who I've been pretty happy with for my timothy, birdsfoot and alfalfa that I've seeded in the past.  If interested, the website for their Teff is http://ift.tt/1SkHYX3.  Also, their teff seed is coated.  I have an older Brillion seeder with just the small seed box, but it doesn't have Teff listed on the setting chart.  Is there a seed that is close enough in size that I could compare it to?  Is coated teff seed similar in size to Timothy seed?  I may be able to borrow another farmers newer Brillion seeder, but I try not borrow equipment if I don't have to and I don't know if his seeder has a teff setting on it either.

I'm sure I'll have more questions as we go along.  As usual, thanks in advance for your help.

Josh

I was reading in the manual that the knives gap needs to be like .030 inches, mine is probably closer to a half inch. it's still Bales alright and I bailed 2000 bales last year with few broken shear pins but I'm trying to find out how to adjust the knives. the manual is rather confusing to somebody that knows nothing about it. how hard is it to adjust the knives?

Fertilizer choices, Coastal Bermuda, may be going in blind-folded

My soil testing report is supposed to be emailed to me today!   I have 30 acres of coastal Bermuda, where I baled last week and aerated the fields as well.   There is a BIG rain event starting on Sunday and lasting until Wednesday of next week.   I am highly motivated to fertilize today or tomorrow!

My dilemma!  In the event I do not get the soil email report I have the premixed choices below...

Helena Chemical has given me these two choices of blends

1) 30-10-10  -1 Sulfur

2) 21-7-14  -9 Sulfur

***Both at a recommended rate of 250 pounds per acre

***Price difference is $132.00

 Very simple questions;

1) Which would you go with given it's a Coastal Bermuda Hay Field near Wallis Texas?

2) How many pounds per acre?

3) What's with the Sulfur difference?

4) Be patient, miss the rain event and wait for the soil analysis?

Thanks and Be Safe!

Mark

RTV 500 WILL NOT MOVE

jeudi 14 avril 2016

Hello,
New to this Forum and just learning about my RTV.

My RTV 500 has 200 hours. I was driving today in H gear on flat surface and the Rtv just coasted to a stop. The engine has same rpm but the machine wont move. It will shift too any gear but still won't move. I raised rear off ground and in N only one tire spins when I manualy turn it. In 2H The tires spin opposite when I turn them manually. Therefor I believe my axle and shift lever are working fine.
When I start the engine the bypass relief actuater does not pop out toward the brake cam as it is supposed too. What would cause this too happen out of the blue? Could the pressure relief valve be stuck?
All fluids are good. WHERE SHOULD I START?
ARE THERE ANY SENSORS IN THE HST THAT COULD CAUSE THIS?
THANKS.

Need advice on first starting up old baler

I have a New Holland 269 wire-tie baler I just got.

I have never even been around a running baler!

Can I start it up and run it without any wire, just to get a feel for how it operates?

Would that do any harm to it?

Other than keeping away from moving parts, any burning advice while starting up an unknown baler for the 1st time?

Thanks much,

Dave in Emmett, ID (PS--anybody in or near Emmett that would be willing to come and advise?)

Hesston 1070 haybine

I have the chance to pick up a hesston 1070 haybine. I have not had much luck finding any info on them online. There were a few things I would like to know before making the trip to go look at the haybine.

Were they good machines?

When were they made?

What do they weigh ( ball park )?

What type of rollers did they use ? I have found post on other forums saying hesston's rollers were not known for delaminating like new hollands.

Are parts still available ?

I'm not looking at using this on a lot of acreage. Just a couple 8-10 acre fields.

thanks for the help

Sickle haybine cutting speed

mercredi 13 avril 2016

I'm getting ready to make the deal on a NH 499 I have been looking at but the only thing that is keeping me from doing so is the cutting speed. With the NH 1465 haybine I sold I simply could not cut over 3.5-4 mph and get a clean cut in any crop conditions.....thin or thick. I have read on here where a couple of you guys that are running or have run a NH 499 are able to cut 5-6 mph.....if I knew that it would cut clean at this speed in most conditions I would buy it. I can't help but to worry that it won't be able to cut any faster than the 1465 though. What is the key to getting a sickle haybine to cut at higher speeds? Do the type of guards have any influence on cutting speeds?

No Tilling Teff in Timothy Stubble

I have a timothy field that I just can't fix so I am starting over.  Will cut first cutting, nuke, then plant teff no till, take one cutting of Teff, nuke, and then no till timothy around the first of sept.  I have a new GP 10' Notill drill.  Anyone used one of these to no till teff?  Specifically looking for your depth setting strategy.  Thanks. r

Lamb/Mutton meat pricing question

So I might have found a farm to store market for my lamb. The USDA butcher would take my lamb on the hoof, kill, butcher, and inspect along the way, cut and wrap for the market, and maybe even deliver to the market. The store is interested mainly because it is locally grown and grass finished. (as if there was any other way for lamb besides the CAFOs)

I just got off the phone with the butcher and he has a way to rail weigh the carcass. This provides me the seller and the buyer a third party way to weigh the meat. The question is, What do I charge? Should I just go off off the upper echelon of the going auction rate for lambs? I am looking to stay in the green and I have the market cornered on this so to speak so I can set a high yet reasonable price per pound without much push back. After all, us farmers should make a good return for daily feedings in the rain, snow, sleet, and feed costs. I am thinking in the area of $2.55lb rail weight. The market can cut a deal with the butcher on the price per head kill/cut and inspection fees and absorb that themselves.

What say you oh wise ones of the forum?

As a side note, the butcher says he sees no difference in the meat between hair sheep vs wool sheep except for the outer fat that they usually have to trim off any way. So that means the few extra Barbados and Dorpers that are in with my woolies can be butchers and the end product is about the same. Save for a little extra marbling for the woolies, he sees no difference once on the cutting table.

Reprieve Teff

I am going to plant teff after taking timothy first cutting, so around mid june to the first of July.  Local Coop proposed Reprieve Teff.  Anyone used it?  What did you pay a #.

Vet/Cattle themometer recommendations

Anybody have a Vet/Cattle thermometer that they like? I bought the little $2 one in the black case at your farm store. I cant for the life of me see where the temp is. I tried and tried. I don't want anything with batteries. Just a simple one that has the fine scale reading needed for animals.

Need help finding parts for spike harrow

mardi 12 avril 2016

Long story short i picked up a spike harrow at an auction. I would like to fix it up and i can find the spikes, but i cant find the "holders". The main bars are channel shaped maybe 1.5" tall .75" wide and the holders are flat bar formed into a c shape with square holes on two opposing sides for the spike to slide theough. The third side has a hole for a bolt to protrude and wedge against the inside of the c rail with a square nut to lock it in place. In my neck of the wood this type of harror seems common but for the life of me ive spent hours online to no avail :(. I can find the spikes but not these holders!!!

Disc mower hitch style

I currently run a Deere 936 discbine with the standard clevis hitch. I am looking to upgrade mowers in the next year and I see they offer different hitch options. What are the advantages to the swivel and 2pt hitch systems? For our uses I usually only have the mower hooked up for a couple of days at a time. Any thoughts and experiences would help. I am not sure which manufacturer I would be going with yet. I was thinking New Holland until I read the NH 7220 thread. I do want rolls, hate the flails on my Deere.

What is the smallest sized trailer I should buy in order to tow my RTV 1100? I have been having the dealer pick it up, but that is getting old and expensive.

Picked up a used JD 348

I found a used John Deere 348 barn kept. I had to go 180 miles to get it. I have a few questions. First off it was parked inside in 2001 and never used since.

I opened the reservoir for hydraulic tension and the level was only one inch in the bottom and really thick nasty oil. The filter was collapsed so I removed it and cleaned it up. I'm wondering if the oil leaked out over the last 15 years.

The multi-luber was also 1/3 full of thick grease. I pumped the pump several times and no grease came out. In the owners manual it says to use Multi-luber lubricant. I wondering over time it just got thick.

Calf not nursing

Yesterday morning when I was leaving for the day I spotted a cow with a new born calf. So I called my son to go check on it. He did and said he thought it was nursing. When I returned in the afternoon I checked on it and the calf was 100 feet from where it was in the morning and the cow was off feeding. I should add we had 2 inches of snow overnight and it turned to a light rain for the day. The cow returned and the calf tried to nurse for an hour. Never got the teet in her mouth. So I brought the calf to the barn and gave it colostrum and in the morning it drank a quart of milk replacer. Looked like it was doing well and thought I would put it back with the cow in my creep feeder. Watched it for 2 hours and it never got up despite the cow licking a nudging it. Any advice or ideas would be much appreciated.

New Idea 4844 Baler

lundi 11 avril 2016

Hello.  I'm new to the forum, and have a couple questions relating to a used New Idea 4844.  My neighbor bought one and I would like to get a couple answers for him.  The baler is hardly used, and appears to be in great shape.

1.  When starting a new bale, do the twine arms rest against the knife cut off area?  When he purchased it, the arms were in the center position.

2.  On, the deluxe monitor, should you see a full bale icon if the tailgate is open?

I appreciate any help!

Straw sales to gardeners

I did some small square bales of straw last fall, first time I've done that. Made a few thousand bales kept a couple thousand for me to sell.

They sat and sat and sat with very few sales, I was wondering if I had made a big mistake. Then this spring my phone started ringing from gardeners wanting to build raised beds and wedding planners wanting to basically rent bales. I sold out rapidly. I'm hoping to do maybe another thousand bales this fall.

I know it's not hay but I found it fall easier to bale as our area is nice and dry that late in summer. I'm considering doing some more and shift to more of my hay to round baling.

The biggest limit on the market seems to be about 50% of the gardeners want organic straw. Wheat here pretty must needs anti fungal spray or the wheat is garbage. I don't know if there are any varieties that make a ton of straw but don't throw much seed?

1800's era rock piles

I was cleaning up fallen trees and thought to step off the road take a picture. The road ran along the edge of the field, pasture on the other side of the rock pile. Both side are fully mature trees now and the field side has been logged once before.

Hay Guard -- RockyHill's First Year Report

As most things with our farming, my reporting on our first year with using any type hay preservative has taken longer than anticipated.

To begin, we know how to put up dry hay and given suitable weather conditions we are successful. Suitable weather conditions – they happen – just not always when forecasted or when the hay is at the right stage of maturity.

Our hay is grass hay, no legumes. We used Hay Guard on both small squares and five foot rolls, plastic twine. We had been able to see inside the squares but have just now unrolled some of the rolls. The treated hay has a soft texture and good color retention.

We are using liquid Hay Guard with the Dohrmann applicator system specifically designed for Hay Guard. The system had everything needed, we did not have to buy any “extras” to do the installation – a very pleasant rareity.

One year has not given us the experience to work out everything we need to know to use it to it's full advantage. As you'all know, most of the time I paraphrase Jeff's comments but this time I asked him for specific quotes.

I am convinced it will keep the temperature down of hay that is too green”

some of the hay we treated was still dusty; not sure that we got the proper amount of product on it”

we had two bales of hay that was extremely green but got a lot of Hay Guard put on it and it didn't heat hardly any and it still looked good after it dried out – no question that that hay kept”

I can't truthfully say it 'worked great' because we failed to get as much product on in some cases as we needed; it is hard for me to recommend to 'try it' because of the cost of the applicator and because we can't truly say it works good or not because we're not sure WE used it properly”

a person that is needing a preservative, it is worth the time and expense to learn how to use it in their operation”

Now for some random things we've learned.

  • Hay Guard is heavier than water; full containers are weighty to pour in and the applicator pump is a slow way to fill. Another pump or gravity feed might be considered.

  • To install the applicator on a John Deere 535 roller requires removing the twine holders to reach where the bracket bolts on. Also the bracket holes do not line up with the holes on the roller so a couple of new holes need to be drilled.

  • The nozzle tips are placed close to the incoming hay. We did not have any problems with them being too close but keep an eye on them while baling.

  • Hay Guard needs to be protected from freezing. Consider winter storage. We bought in jugs this year to have storage containers in the future.

  • The flow meter is a bit difficult to read when mounted by the applicator tank. Keep an eye on the flow meter to make sure tips haven't clogged.

  • The finish of the baling equipment is affected by Hay Guard. While it may not be rust it is something to deal with. We have always used air to clean up the balers; rinsing off is really needed.

  • Hay Guard needs to be stored with a minimal amount of air space left in the container.

  • Hay Guard does not have any odor.

  • Leaving a small amount of Hay Guard in the applicator at the end of the season will create a horrible smell. Clean the tank out when not being used.

  • A costly lesson – baling dry hay we had always been able to sell hay immediately after baling. We had baled and stacked a few hundred preserved bales. We told the customer about the hay being baled with Hay Guard; we did not know to tell them to make sure to closely stack the hay when they got it home. They stacked it to 'air' it out, even Coke cans between bales to bales from touching. The hay basically rotted. The rest of that hay that we had here in the stack went through its sweat and kept fine. Customer understood their mistake and we understood our mistake and we made it right.

  • Our established 'horsey person' lady customer was very satisfied with the treated hay. We ask her to report back to us; she was pleased, her animals were pleased; the only problem she found was a small amount of damage around a box turtle in the bale. Hay Guard does not have a recommendation for box turtle preservation and we aren't planning for that expansion.

  • We had not previously used any preservative in our baler, but be aware that if acid has been used the baler must be completely cleaned of any residue.

  • There is a learning curve. Trying to get the right application rate takes a lot of trial and error. Timing bale formation and weighing bales are a factor but as with all of hay making it is more art than science.

  • The hay baled with Hay Guard has a different smell than hay baled dry – difficult to describe – not unpleasant in any way but not the normal 'cured' smell.

  • Hay Guard may be increasing their recommended application rate. Inquire with your representative for best results.
