This past winter I picked up a new BC5070 Hayliner replacing a three year old John Deere 338. I wanted to share a few observations after putting up 5000 bales so far this year. As people have commented before, this baler will really eat the hay. I baled up a field the other day and did 2500 bales in 5 hours. Granted, the bales were not the best looking and definitely not consistent in length but I needed to get the field done as quick as possible. I couldn't believe it did 500 bales per hour. Another thing I noticed is the baler is not as forgiving with the occasional slug of wet hay as the John Deere. Perhaps I need more run time on the baler and that would improve, but I feel the auger of the John Deere helped mix in the occasional slug of wet hay better. So far I have had no tying issues and I can make great looking bales if I bale at a reasonable rate. One other thing I like is the extra weight of this baler, that and the larger tires, really make for a smooth ride through the field.
