Vermeer Rebel 5410 Belts

I have a Vermeer 5410 I was rolling with this weekend and the belt splice (clipper lacing)pulled apart, this seems like a very weak splice, my questions are: what are the best replacement belts to buy, what is the best splice machine and splice, also can I install a new splice and a short piece of belt thus being 2 splices close together to get back to my factory belt length, thanks for any help.
