As many have posted,they are experiencing a wet season and delayed hay cutting.We had a similar season last year when most of our hay was over ripe when made.We also had an abundance of grass for pasture.
We experienced problems with cows maintaining and the losing condition even after a lot of fall grazing to lead another neighbor and myself to think the hay and grass,although abundant,lacked a lot of food value.Only after we started supplementing a grain mix did our cows start to improve.
Wet,cool winter temps with a lot of cloudy conditions didn't help nor did the mud they had to deal with.
